The XHL/XDM mod has finally made it to release stage. The alpha testing wasn't very intense, but still, tons of bugs were discovered, even more suggestions received (some people even wanted counter-strike-like mod, lolwhat?). So, hundreds of man-hours were spent on fixing and polishing the mod (geez, working alone is HARD!!)
Recently I've found (with some help :) ) and was able to contact authors of some outstanding maps who kindly let me use their work in my mod: Rimrook, hlife_hotdog, Skaarj. It took quite a bit of time to optimize (sometimes retexture) those maps, insert entities, write scripts, apply detail texturing, tune gameplay... But the result is astonishing. I still can't believe we've reached a number of 40 maps! Most of them are VERY beautiful and have awesome gameplay!
Also, check out this meant-to-be cool poster :) (maybe it'll be better for the mod front page?).
So, the work is 99% done, last lines of code were written, the source will be released at the same time as the mod itself.
But reality doesn't allow only good things to happen: just a few days ago our main storage server burned down, and this will have significant negative impact on the process... (I'd appreciate it if someone could send me a used Sun X4100 M2 server :) ). There are lots of other troubles too, but that's the most notable. Anyway, I'm trying to recover as fast as I can. Stay tuned, track the mod. Emotional support is valuable too. (^_^)/
First release mid-2001 and still developing? Man, you're kinda extremely dedicated modder!
It turned into long-term hobby... one of :D
