Description

Developed in the late 1980s, the Kbk wz. 1988's history dates back to around 1984, when work began on a rifle based upon the AK-74, but with emphasis on parts commonality with the earlier AKM. The Tantal features a multi-functional muzzle brake (can be used for firing rifle-grenades), a 3-round burst mode in addition to automatic and semi, and a folding stock, based upon the East German MPi-KMS-72 rifle. The rifle's fire selector is separate from the safety, and is located on the left side of the receiver. Although adopted in 1990, the rifle was not used for long, as in 1996 a 5.56 AK-based rifle, the Beryl, was adopted to meet NATO requirements).
