Developed to replace the RK 62 series, the RK 95 was initially a heavily modified/upgraded RK 62 (known at the time as M90. The M90 had many changes to controls, including the movement of the safety switch to the left side. This change was reverted before adoption, and the final model was adopted in 1995 as the RK 95 TP.
