yes, of course... and they are "cheaper" than americans. American are proud to have large army, but only some of them would join it...

actually, a soldier gets paid the same if they are the same rank and time in service and same duties, so a soldier that is an immigrant gets paid the same as a citizen. You have no idea wtf you are talking about.

having been a 3rd generation citizen that served in the US military and as has been said, draft ended during Vietnam/Post-Vietnam era (1970s)

Their is no conscription in the USA. Hasn't been since Vietnam. Everyone in the military today is there because they chose to enlist. The US is a nation of immigrants, almost half of our country is made up of non white or mixed heritage. It's an everyday sight to see Blacks, Asians, American Indians or Hispanics fighting alongside their fellow white soldiers. My family has been in the military ever since they fled from British Crown's oppression and starvation in Ireland during the 1860's. Fighting for the Union during the civil war and still serving today...

A sad fact is that for many poor people the fighting forces are the only place to get qualifications, a job and something like a home - meanwhile kids from rich families become desk jockeys or avoid the military all together.
