Expensive? I spent less than $20 US dollars in paint and this piece is over a metre in length. Brushes only need to be bought once, take care of them and they will last a lifetime.

in UK from where i have found art shops acrylics are bit more plus other art expenses such as canvas or good paper and brushes traditional is good yes but i dont think that traditional is neccesarily better than digital which seems to be a opinion held by alot of people. I mostly combine pencil and colour in digital.

Well, I do agree that learning traditional art is more expensive than doing it digital. Paint is not unlimited and you need to keep buying it. Also, until you have reached a good understanding of each kind of paint, you have already invested a lot of money to just get there. However, it's definitely worth the effort and money spent, as also digital painting benefits from traditional art knowledge/experience.

@ProfNutButter: Of course traditional art ist not necessarily better than digital art - how could it be? Those are different mediums and both belong together, you can't compare them.

Making something more often doesn't make it more legit. You can discuss, whether YOU prefer traditional or digital medium and what YOU think fits better for you, but why would it make sense to compare them in general?

That would be like comparing NYC with a little no-name village. Both have their pros and cons and each person has their own taste and prefers each over the other, but it doesn't make much sense to say that NYC is better than that village in general.

Indeed, this September I plan on taking on one of those short university courses to challenge my digital medium skills. As you said, apples and oranges, traditional has a nice natural; if chaotic feel not found in digital, but the same control over colour and texture values isn't anywhere close to digital.

remember, painting is the easy part, ensure the drawing you use is topnotch! And don't be afraid to draw over your paint if you feel anything looks 'wrong'.

Description

This isn't actually concept art, but more of a reminder to those budding concept artists out there that sometimes using traditional mediums like oil and acrylic can produce their own interesting effects and really help in formulating your own style. Remember kids, there's more to life than pencils and digital!
