I think people have engraved in their brains that their lifes must have some sort of unique, important, special, holy, meaning and they are not sastified with the notion that when you die, you DIE, things like evolution and the selfish gene pretty much threatens this kind of ideas and maybe this is why people tend to reject so much these theories.

Christians say:

-God has a plan for YOU
-God loves YOU
-When you die YOU will go to an eternal paradie and reunite with YOUR loved ones
-God is YOUR best friend
-God created YOU
-Jesus died for our sins because he loves YOU, he wanted to save YOU

Etc...

These ideas always revolve around you, they make you look special and that our lifes are sacred, that there's something out there grater than all of us that love and cares about you and is able to make you enjoy the wonders of life forever, it looks selfish, right?

That's because we ARE selfish and have selfish drives.

This is where Christianity comes in. Christianity offers to stroke our dicks basically, and in return, as long as we do what it says, we will get our dicks stroked everyday for the rest of existence.

I'd like to remind everyone though that there is a good side to Christianity: even though it strokes the individual's ****, it tries to get the individuals it converts to become a group that help and support each other. (Most of the time, for their own ends)

Science isn't very different. Scientists are rational intellectuals united in seeking knowledge. (Sometimes for their own ends)

Selfishness wasn't created by religion. Religion was created out of selfish desires...but that isn't totally a bad thing because religion tries to get them to help each other effectively by tricking them. Don't forget that seeking knowledge is often also a selfish desire...

Yeah, I'm agree, I guess this is the way we are programmed to behave like. And, in my opinion this good side of Christianity is not really different than the "bad" side because they are both driven by selfishness one way or another.
