Mari Illustrious Makinami (真希波・マリ・イラストリア) is an Evangelion pilot strictly introduced into the franchise during the 4-part theatrical remake series Rebuild of Evangelion, in the second installment Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. She is voiced by Maaya Sakamoto in the Japanese version. She is a confident and eccentric character.
Sadamoto designed her to look British, and added glasses as a 'simple yet effective way to set her apart from the other characters'
oh glasses
I know, right? It's incredible how these fit in her without looking 'nerdy' - although that's fine by me - I actually enjoyed having this new character.
so what do you think of remakes?
further milking of the dying cash cow, or an ambiteous re-imagination of the original?
I'm interested mostly in quality of that new changed plot.
without spoilers plz, i (and many others) haven't seen this yet.
Don't worry, I won't say any spoilers - they just ruin it, in my opinion.
Well, it depends. Normally I'm not a fan of remakes, specially in movie form: they loose too much of the story and add more effects. If it is a remake in form of a series, I might catch up, since there'll be time for more development.
In this case, I liked it very much. Aside from some plot changes, both movies were neat and a reminder of the classic series of NGE. In this case, also, there isn't one ending only (the manga isn't finished yet and the movie/series final was complicated for many people) so I liked very much of a different view on the series.
This character, Mari, was a great addition, I liked her style and her enthusiasm, something hard to find in Eva Pilots. Resuming, I like this new take and I am anxious for the 2 final Rebuild movies.
ohh envagelion :3 and mari is so kawaii
Agree! She really is, isn't she? In my opinion, that was a great addition to the series.
one of the animes i havent watched yet.
I strongly recommend this anime. NGE isn't just about mecha fights - which I initially thought - it is deep, and has beautiful psychological/philosophical meanings and explanation. Many people disagree about the endings (since they are vague and open). But to understand you must keep your mind open to every thought. It also heavily mentions the Catholic Religion.
Take a time and look it up :)
maybe ill consider watching this as well :)
You should! Have you already watched the original series? I recommend to watch first the series, then the movie since there were some plot changes. But I saw the first two and I liked it very much!
The remakes are supposed to be in an alternet universe i think.
Not exactly an alternative universe, but more of a remake of the original series in movie format. Since it isn't the "exact original series", then there can be differences in the plot like the addition of a character (Mari, for example).
But the movies are in great quality and I recommend it to NGE fans and new to the series.
wonderful art
