What part of SAO turned you off, honestly I disliked SAO while I loved LH so it might not mean much... it's only like SAO in the sense that it's like .Hack as in it's theme is an MMORPG.
Like I mean when it's a game it isn't very Climatic you know? You don't get attached because it isn't "real". If you know what I mean?
Also the lead character was a very poor charter imo as far as design, and they wasted a potentially very good character ((Asuna)) and made her a typical Damsel in Distress.
Just My Opinion from what I saw when I watched the series.
hmm yeah, I didn't really have that problem with Log Horizon, it's hard to describe but after the third or fourth episode can't remember which it had an almost Death Note'ish feel to it how one of the main characters outplayed everybody and at that point I was hooked.
and unlike most anime I actually enjoy the romantic interests between the different characters. Of which the main one, the girl (Akatsuki), is an assassin. No damsel in distress.
and as far as attachment goes, there is a plot twist (warning spoiler alert) that the previously npc's of the game now gain self awareness and also unlike the actual players (which upon death lose a part of their memory) can actually die and a few of them become important main/side characters.
Yeah this pretty much, lol I'm really horrible at putting my thoughts into words, I just end up using way to much text and still not really saying what I actually mean >.<
What about Henrietta? :p
I never got around to watching this series.
If you ever have the time for it, give it a go ;)
I heard it was like SAO so I kinda passed on it. :(
I'll liklely have to watch it at some point anywho.

Well, I just thought the Plot was kinda silly..

SAO and Log Horizon are the opposite. LH has very simple graphic but great plot and characters. You can give a try without any regret. u.u
