I don't know in WW2 there are peoples that still use samurai swords while the other fight with weapons from machine guns to bomber planes. :P

Wow, I just looked up the anime and, I'm not going to spoil anything, but it's really not what you would expect i.e "Bloody mechas!" Also, this is actually a movie, not a TV anime...
