With Xibalbá, I posted my first game idea on Indie Db.
Who am I? I am a person who tries to become a professional indie game developer.
Several years ago, all I did was sketching and painting, but I felt that there was not enough immersion. People looked at it for seconds, liked it or not and forgot it. That was when I felt the urge to develop games, not art. So I started to learn programming and later Unity. And that was the best thing that could happen. Unity and developing games became my passion and I developed the dream to become a professional game developer. But enough about me now, let me introduce you to Xibalbá!
Xibalbá started with a vague inspiration I had from playing Battle of Olympus and Faxanadu on the NES.
Since several years I wanted to create a sidescroller with the flair and atmosphere of those games.
Even though they were simple and incredibly hard at times, they had an impact on me and stayed in my head. I always found the meso-american culture very fascinating and mysterious and immediately started having ideas in my head, collecting images and the creative process began. Since I am still a huge noob when it comes to game development, I decided to go the easy way and start with a sidescroller with a simple core and not too many features.
The development is not very far yet, since it started at beginning of April 2014. Up to now, I added the basic features like moving, hitting, crouching, buttons, destructible doors etc. But it is still far from polished. Since I as a developer have a hard time knowing what feels right and wrong since I stare at the game ~10 hours a day and playtest it VERY often, I tend to become blind for several sorts of flaws. Therefore I need your support to playtest it as much as possible and report what you noticed or what you wish to have in future iterations. Also, if you share it with others to test it too, there will be more feedback, more ideas that may find their way into the game.
I will update the game at least weekly, sometimes daily, depending on the tasks I have for the next iteration.
Thanks a lot for your interest, I hope you will enjoy seeing the progress of this project.
Greetings,
Max
