The Real Texas is an action adventure game that plays like a mashup of Zelda: Link to the Past and Ultima VI. Sam, an ordinary Texas rancher, is on holiday in England when he falls into a blue portal and lands in Strange, Texas. The Real Texas is a pretty even balance between exploration/problem solving, and shooting/dungeons. There are no standard fetch quests or the like but the NPCs in the game all play a part in the unfolding of the story.

Description

Here I talk about geometry in game design in The Real Texas, my upcoming game.

Real, wild forests have a natural layout that is chaotic and actually uninviting to humans; they are confusing and dangerous. When you're designing a game, don't imitate this but instead think about laying things out geometrically, to afford the player a better understanding of where they are, and make them feel at home.
