A free to play, Multiplayer, Stunt Driving game, with global leaderboards, currently in active development by one person, Stunt Car Online is a playable download racing game powered by Unity 3d. The game will be a pay-what-you-want model where I humbly ask for players to donate a little money to help support me - mostly paying for the astronomical hosting fee's! - but you never know, getting a unity pro license one day would certainly help performance! :) Currently there is an online demo of the game, but this is rapidly becoming very out dated as I am no longer updating this version. Thanks for your time!

Progress on Day 3 of the New Car for Stunt Car Online

Posted by on

Blimey, what a frustrating day! Having spent WAY too long on the wheel yesterday, I neglected the basic layout of the car.

Day 3

Here we are.. The next step in the car design. There's still a lot of tweaking I need to do (and if you look closely there's some floating elements (wingmirrors, front bumper etc) - but on the whole I'm quite pleased with it. It's taken a heck of a lot of tweaking to get to this stage. I have a new respect for car designers. Getting the right balance is very difficult. I'm still not 100% happy, and I'm sure I'll keep tweaking but that's inevitable really.

A view from the cockpit

Day 3

Look look! The V8 top exiting exhausts are in! And you can see them from the cockpit. And you can see the wing mirrors! and the tires! (I've not put any body work on the main cockpit yet because I'm not 100% sure of it's shape yet - that's tomorrows job)

Day 3

A view from the back - you can see the roll cage in green going across the top. You probably won't be able to see this from the outside on the final car (as it'll be covered with body work)

And a final shot of the new engine layout. I'm not finished tweaking yet.

Day 3

The blue cowling on the right hand side of this image will eventually be see-thru mesh to make the car look a bit more "open" than it does currently.

What are we going to do tomorrow? Tomorrow we look at the generic textures! Woooooo

(By generic textures I mean, the metal roll bars being textured....)

guess your still adding pedals shifter, handbrake to the model, on another note the steering wheel seems out of reach.

also the car feels to light and out of control, have a look at the scripts they used in the car race demo of unity, on my first turn i bounced out of the map

thanks for the feedback - the cockpit is completely not done yet as it's really time consuming - I agree with you regarding the wheel being too far away, didn't notice that when I saved out the image. Will look at the camera position again today!

Also regarding the cars handling in on the online demo - I've completely redone the car physics but not put it online yet (it'll be first shown in version 1.00 which I hope to release soon-ish) - the car is handling very differently to how it was in that demo :)

thanks for the feedback!

Great job on the new car... I know how much time it takes, but its a hobby of love... you become the car when its done! Seriously, its a great model... your hard work really pays off, maybe not in money, but entertainment.
