Soul Saga Dev Diary 44 - Lots of video recording and gathering of story assets for presenting.

Posted by Disastercake on Mar 14th, 2013

Soul Saga Red Mage

Summary
Today was a whole lot of video shooting for the Soul Saga Kickstarter. After many hours of that I returned home and started gathering art assets and information on the story and started putting it into a presentable format. I'm considering putting all of the story content up before the Kickstarter, but am thinking that it might be better to keep it under the big cloth so that the Kickstarter has a lot of neat information for both new and veteran fans. The Kickstarter video should do a good job of explaining the story of the universe!

Tomorrow
Tomorrow I need to finally get cracking on polishing up a dungeon scene and get some game play footage.

Day 44 (2013/03/13 W)
12 hrs. Today ( 427 Total)

  • Game Design
    • Started gathering all of the Soul Saga universe‚Äôs story content and organizing it for the presentation.
  • Project Management
    • Spent most of the day filming footage for the Kickstarter video with video producer (Neil).

Hey dude, i think the game is great but if your gonna make it cartoon-ish then you should change the gui and the icons to keep the same theme. if you dont this will make the game feel and look strange

Hey limst,

I completely agree. The phone is there to stay, since it's an original creation for Soul Saga, but the icons and environment are all just stock art I'm using temporarily. Well, temporarily only if the Kickstarter does well.

The thing is, even though I've spent over $20,000 on the game so far, I can't afford everything at this high quality with that small amount. It sounds like a lot, but it's really not. I can't tell you how many times I've actually been laughed at by contractors when I tell them my budget for certain parts of the game. But I kept going and making smart decisions about what I invested in the money in for custom art, and what I invested in stock art.

That is why I'll be launching the Kickstarter so that I can get things like the icons, animations, and environments all polished up for you. If we can work together to get enough funding we will even get to see more playable races!

You're right to have high expectations for Soul Saga. This isn't a hobby project I'm doing just for fun. I'm extremely passionate about bringing you a high quality game that looks and plays great while introducing new story telling mechanisms, and I'm willing to sacrifice every penny I have to bring it to you. I even sold my car a couple years ago to help fund the game.
