Shallow Space is a 3D Real Time Strategy game inspired by Nexus: The Jupiter incident and Homeworld. Shallow Space focuses on organised mass RTS space combat in a fully 3D environment. Ships in Shallow Space are nearly always grouped into Flotillas and Wings, and orders issued to these structures cascade to the subordinate members. Rather than stressing out clicking on the units or dragging selection boxes during the heat of battle, standing orders are issued in advance leaving you to zoom around, activating abilities and arranging support and reinforcements. Should the tide turn in battle traditional control is still available.
OK so now we can move more than one ship at once, utilising the multiple waypoint system. You can select the ships using shift or drag a selection box around them, will add a demo video soon. After a quick bug sweep that about finishes the player ship movement mechanics which means it could be time for a bit of procedural generation :D
Awesome :D what kind of procedural generation are we talking here? or is it "I could tell you but then I'd have to stab you with a muffin" secret?
Well it depends on how it plays, there will be a linear story with random sub-quests and that linear story's quest marker locations could be completely randomised with each sector being procedurally generated at the start of a new game.
If it gives us inconsistent playability then it will just be the NPC ships, asteroids and non-quest stations.
If I make enough money to do what I really want to do though, I really will carry us boldly into brand new territory.
Sounds good :) I'd be happy to contribute money towards this if/when given the opportunity. Not sure if something's already set up or not.
This is something I'm genuinely excited for and I'd be happy to help in whatever way I can :)
Nothing is set-up at present as we are still trying to gather traction, but you can register for email updates on the blog Shallow-space.com (top right hand side above the twitter feed.)
Really appreciate that though thanks! :D
