Penumbra is a first person horror adventure focusing on story, immersion and puzzle solving. Violence and combat is hardly an option - the player has to use wits to guide Philip through his final test, and this makes the series unique in offering a truly dangerous and terrifying experience.

This was a great game. A lot of it can relate to Amnesia: The Dark Descent inlcuding the dark, oppresive atmosphere, always leading the player downward. And it was impressive that I still got somewhat frightened at times when I didn't expect it, even though most of the game wasn't all that dark.
There were, however, several flaws. Getting used to the game mechanics took quite a bit of work, especially with the melee weapons. Also some things were overused such as the endless labryinth-like halls and the terribly annoying dogs. Seriously, why did there have to be so many killer dogs?
But by the end, the game was more rewarding than I thought. I am excited to start with the next one.
Thanks Frictional Games!
