Mayhem Intergalactic is a game with simple rules giving rise to rich strategy. Each session lasts only 5-15 minutes, yet there is enough depth and replayability to keep you occupied for hours at a time. In a nutshell, it's a turn-based 4X-like strategy game, providing a streamlined version of the gameplay found in other turn-based strategy games. There is no resource micromanagement, allowing you to concentrate on strategy and tactics instead. Also, there's an alien wearing a monocle.

Post news Report content RSS feed 50% of proceeds to help Aussie bushfire victims

I hereby pledge to donate 50% of the proceeds from sales of my indie game (both via Steam, and direct sales via my website), starting from the 7th of February and lasting throughout the rest of the month, towards helping the victims of the recent and ongoing Australian bushfires, which started on that date. These bushfires are by far the worst in Australia's history, having claimed 180+ lives, injured hundreds more people, and destroyed 1000 homes.

Posted by inventivedingo on Feb 11th, 2009

Many of you - especially those of you who, like myself, are from Australia - will have heard by now of the devastating bushfires which have been raging in the Australian states of Victoria (especially) and New South Wales since late last week. As of this writing, the fires in Victoria alone are known to have killed more than 180 people, with the death toll expected to rise to above 200 and possibly above 300. Last I heard about 500 people had been treated for burns, and 100 of them had been hospitalised. Over 330,000 hectares have been burnt out and nearly 1000 homes destroyed. In some cases entire towns have been levelled. These are officially the worst bushfires in Australia’s history; an especially big deal considering that Australia is claimed to be the most fire-prone country in the world.

At times like these, it is up to the rest of us Aussies to help, knowing that the people affected would do the same if our positions were reversed. That's why

I’m pledging 50% of proceeds from sales of my indie game towards helping victims of these devastating bushfires,

dating back from the day the fires took hold (7th February) and lasting until the end of this month. The money will be sent to the Australian Red Cross's bushfire appeal fund. Those interested in donating directly can do so on their website.

More details on my blog.

"Hang on, what indie game? And why should I buy it?"

This one! Mayhem Intergalactic, a game with rich strategy, yet simple rules. Mayhem Intergalactic is a game which only takes 5-15 minutes per session, yet has enough depth and replayability to keep you occupied for hours at a time

In a nutshell, Mayhem Intergalactic is a turn-based 4X strategy game. It provides a streamlined version of the gameplay found in other turn-based strategy games, freeing you from resource micromanagement and letting you concentrate on actual strategy. See this earlier news post containing gameplay details, or watch the video below:

Why buy it? Well, firstly because it's awesome (in my entirely humble opinion - *cough*), and secondly because if you buy before February ends, you'll be helping out a bunch of people in need. It's a win-win-win situation.

Still not convinced? That's OK; I don't expect you to buy anything blind. Check out the free demo below to see if you like the game.

Although I can't say the game interests me much, my heart does go out to the people who have suffered and are still suffering from the bushfires, and much respect goes to those who help those victims.
So good on you for doing this mate, much respect, and best of wishes for the sales ;)

Believe me when I say that 50% of my revenue is a significant chunk of money. I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for a good cause.

The point is to encourage people to donate. If you'd prefer to donate directly, great! That's even better. I'm merely providing an additional incentive to push the stragglers over the line. :)

If you prefer to cut out the middleman (always a good idea), then I encourage you to visit the Australian Red Cross's website directly to make a secure online donation:
