Many of you - especially those of you who, like myself, are from Australia - will have heard by now of the devastating bushfires which have been raging in the Australian states of Victoria (especially) and New South Wales since late last week. As of this writing, the fires in Victoria alone are known to have killed more than 180 people, with the death toll expected to rise to above 200 and possibly above 300. Last I heard about 500 people had been treated for burns, and 100 of them had been hospitalised. Over 330,000 hectares have been burnt out and nearly 1000 homes destroyed. In some cases entire towns have been levelled. These are officially the worst bushfires in Australia’s history; an especially big deal considering that Australia is claimed to be the most fire-prone country in the world.
At times like these, it is up to the rest of us Aussies to help, knowing that the people affected would do the same if our positions were reversed. That's why
I’m pledging 50% of proceeds from sales of my indie game towards helping victims of these devastating bushfires,
dating back from the day the fires took hold (7th February) and lasting until the end of this month. The money will be sent to the Australian Red Cross's bushfire appeal fund. Those interested in donating directly can do so on their website.

"Hang on, what indie game? And why should I buy it?"
This one! Mayhem Intergalactic, a game with rich strategy, yet simple rules. Mayhem Intergalactic is a game which only takes 5-15 minutes per session, yet has enough depth and replayability to keep you occupied for hours at a time
In a nutshell, Mayhem Intergalactic is a turn-based 4X strategy game. It provides a streamlined version of the gameplay found in other turn-based strategy games, freeing you from resource micromanagement and letting you concentrate on actual strategy. See this earlier news post containing gameplay details, or watch the video below:
Why buy it? Well, firstly because it's awesome (in my entirely humble opinion - *cough*), and secondly because if you buy before February ends, you'll be helping out a bunch of people in need. It's a win-win-win situation.
Still not convinced? That's OK; I don't expect you to buy anything blind. Check out the free demo below to see if you like the game.
