Intertwined is a game set in a post-apocalyptic environment where the player must attempt to rebuild society with what scarce resources are put before him, while staying elusive and avoiding the evils of this new world. While some people may choose to stay isolated and live off the lands themselves, others may take on the hefty task of building or joining a settlement, and living in a community with the perks it provides. As the game advances, the focus of surviving turns to thriving as players take to creating vast cities and rebuilding society; advancing the world from a nuclear wasteland to a potential futuristic utopia.

A key factor to a post-apocalyptic game is having a nice atmosphere that fits the setting. This week we made a good step forward towards having a good looking post-apocalyptic environment.

Hello everyone,

As you probably would know by now, our game is a post-apocalyptic game. In a game that takes place in this setting, I feel that it is extremely important to capture as much of the atmosphere possible that you would expect from such a setting. Something that I've noticed is that a lot of games really lack the feel and atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic game. I decided to set it out as my mission to make our game feel as gritty, dirty, and as dreadful as you could imagine a post-apocalyptic game would be.I've re-done the terrain many times, constantly trying to get a better apocalyptic feel for it. Although I have improved it a lot, I don’t feel like it is up to my expectations enough to show it yet. However, I did improve the way the buildings and other remnants of society would look in the game. Below you will see several screenshot comparisons of the changes I have made to the objects in the world.

As you can tell, it looks like there is a ton more detail on the “after” screenshots. Not only that, it looks a lot grittier and dirty, thus giving it a really nice post-apocalyptic feel to it. This, along with the terrain when it is to our satisfaction, will open Intertwined up to a really nice apocalyptic atmosphere which we can’t wait to see.

Hope you like the direction we are going with this. Leave us some feedback as to whether you like it or not. See you next week!
