retovashu First of all, what is your gamertag in Heroes & Generals, and what’s the story?
Reto.Vashu – it’s a bit of blur really, but my interest in Vash the Stampede from Trigun mainly influenced the name. I was pretty sure there was something that inspired the “u”, but we’ll probably never find out!

What is your position at Reto-Moto?
It says “Programmer”, but I’m only working with the Flash part of the game, so I’m probably better described as a Flash Programmer (though they are dying out slowly).

For how long have you been working here?
I started on the 2nd of January 2012, I’m the latest and greatest addition to the team (in 2012)!

What games have you worked on?
I have never worked making games before! I was a beta tester for Playdead Games’ Limbo, but I haven’t been creating any game before, so this was a quantum leap into Games Development from working in a Digital Agency before.

Which tools do you use for making Heroes & Generals?
Adobe Flash Builder 4.6 / ActionScript 3.0, Adobe Photoshop, Evernote, Perforce, a lot of Browsers and asking a lot of questions to everyone.

What are your hobbies?
I’m an enthusiast. I love computer games, tabletop games, card games and adrenalin kicks from either skiing, rollercoasters or just trying new things. Shiny gadgets and having good hardware also takes up a lot of my sparetime! I’m also a collector of books and I read as much as I can.

What’s the best thing about Heroes & Generals?
The level of control a player will have on determining the fate of the Second World War. The fact that every spawned soldier count towards the grand goal of conquering the other side. That battles are determined not only by the cunning of strategy and supply lines, but also by the skill with a tank, plane or grenade.

What’s the best thing about working at Reto-Moto?
The colleagues! Everyone bring ideas and opinions to the table and they are reliable and efficient. The all-time present desire to create a fantastic game makes me to work even harder to help create the vision that we all share for Heroes & Generals.

What are you working on right now?
I’m improving the chat area of the Campaign part and preparing it for future updates and structuring a road map for that section.
I’m also looking into the Friend’s list and making sure that will be added as soon as possible to connect players with each other.

What are your favorite games of all time?
The game that has left the biggest impression on me is Half-Life 2. It was just such an incredible experience when I first played through it.
I was also extremely impressed with the environments of Bioshock and the story.
At heart though, I’m a RTS player and I will always remember Red Alert the fondest as it was both the first game I owned myself and a fantastic RTS. “Acknowledged” will stay with me forever.

What is your favorite movies?
Tough call, I would probably still say The Matrix (the first movie) and Patton, those 2 movies just keep popping into my head when I think of great movies.
