Garry’s Mod is a sandbox mod for the Source Engine. Unlike normal games there aren't any predefined aims or goals. Players are given tools and are left to entertain themselves. The player is in a world where objects can be created and destroyed on demand. Where people can be created and destroyed with the click of a mouse. A world made for him. A world he made.

Description

Transcript from the rebel's Diary:
"Day 74:
Three days ago I sent out a signal on an open frequency.
I am going to give the others time.
The Combine will find me.
And I long to go out with a bang.
Seems that the Combine are going to give me that.
I am precursor.
We wait for the Freeman.
I sacrifice myself for the others.
I go with a bang.
May the Freeman arrive early and drive them off."

-and nothing more is written, but a bloody hand print on the next page.
It is safe to assume that the rebel is dead.
He sacrificed himself to give the others time.
Time that would be valuable, in giving the rebels a chance to establish themselves before the arrival of the Freeman.
