Garry’s Mod is a sandbox mod for the Source Engine. Unlike normal games there aren't any predefined aims or goals. Players are given tools and are left to entertain themselves. Keep in mind that this is seven months before Gordon Freeman arrived.
Their work is to "dispose" of all the gas cans, for some reason.
They are disposing of them because they are empty, have leaks in them, and are taking up space.
What would should have done was make them have a party.
