Flesh Asunder is an action RPG that revolves around preventing the second wave of a demonic invasion. It takes place in America, a few years in the future. To sum it up in a single sentence, Flesh Asunder is as though Hellgate: London and Path of Exile had a baby.

does the sword HAVE to have that eye on it? I mean I'm all for homages, but that's a bit overboard.

The Soul Calibur series has a famous character, Nightmare, whose sword has an eye on it. It's the Soul Edge, one of the two strongest swords in the game series' story.
This may or may not have been done unintentionally. Perhaps it's a late April's Fools running gag that is removed in the final version.
Delayed response, but we did remove the sword from the Imp, as it was deemed to be too goofy anyway.
