I would not normally give a game like Doom a 10/10. Probably more around the ballpark of an 8-9. But I have to give it a 10, because it's earned it.
Doom gets a 10 from me because of the impact that it left behind. While not being the first FPS, it was the first to incorporate many of the elements that we associate with the genre today: fast-paced combat, intense gunfights, and an large arsenal of fun to use weapons. It was the first to really engage players and make them sweat for those kills. The first to make those kills satisfying to the player.
If you call yourself a gamer, or even just have a passing interest in video games at all, and have not played Doom, you owe it to yourself to. And you can get it running on pretty much any system too, so you have no excuse not to play it either.
