FINALLY...it lives!
*exhales deeply*

So after a very arduous year of work in my spare-time, I have put the finishing touches to Ruins of Endoth (RoE) version 1.0. It is the product of hundreds and hundreds of hours, at times often when I should have been sleeping or spending time with loved ones, but that's the sacrifice you have to make to get something out there.

I had to cut many features from my extensive design doc along the way, and added others that I could achieve in a reasonable time. It was hard to say goodbye to some of the more exciting features but I simply had to prioritise what I wanted for the initial release, otherwise the development would have gone on indefinitely. I couldn't afford this to happen as my partner is giving birth to our daughter this week so it was a kind of race against time to get done before then. She is delayed by 12 days already, so maybe she waited just to give me time to finish? I doubt it but I appreciate the extra time anyway!

I plan to release free updates for the game, and who knows possibly add some of the features I had to leave out, and expand upon some of the stuff that's already in there. An easy target is extra item types (only require new art, and minimal coding to implement - low risk). Slightly more difficult is new monsters as they require more coding and testing, animations, sound and then need integrating into the loot and quest system.
Difficult tasks that would require extensive modification to the code-base are things like the 'Shop' feature that I had to drop. This would need a fair chunk of time to create the functionality, art and sound required but would add a new aspect to the game, and something to do with the hard-earned gold you acquire during your dungeon exploration!

Crafting is another biggy that I had to drop. I wanted you to be able to salvage items along the way, at a campfire and use those resources to imbue existing items (with randomised effects and results) or even create new items altogether. this was a very large and high-risk feature that I simply had to cull due to the amount of work and prototyping it would require. Maybe in a later version?
