Checkmate is a hybrid between Chess and the management game genre. By combining a management element with the strategy part of Chess, this game creates an unique experience for all ages.

A little teaser...

23-4-2016

I've already told you guys that I'm going to release a demo anytime soon, and today I want to show you a little bit more of what I've been working on!

I've informed y'all about the "scenario's" in board mode, last week. You'll get a particular setup of pieces, and your goal is to find out how to checkmate the opponent within the given scenario. Essentially, it's a "chess puzzle"!

Today, I'll show you the problem in a *.gif, followed by the solution in a video, in which I talk (not-so) briefly about the setup, the rules and how to solve the problem!

Have fun!

Scenario 1: Mate in one

The first scenario is a simple mate-in-one puzzle. Here's a *.gif of the starting board position:

challenge mateinone

Can you figure out the solution? Remember that you can move multiple pieces within one turn, unless you're at check (in which case you may only move the king)!

Here's the solution:

Scenario 2: Pinned Queen

This scenario is based all around pinning a piece down to the board. It can also be described as a "mate in two"-problem. Here's the *.gif file of the starting position:

challenge pin

Can you figure this one out?

Here's the solution:

Scenario 3: Twice a rook

The final scenario that I'm going to reveal is slightly more complicated than the previous ones, and poses an interesting challenge to figure out as you go. Once you know the trick, it's easy mate, but finding the trick may take quite a while. Below is the *.gif file of the starting position:

challenge mateinfour

Can you figure out the solution to my favourite scenario?

Here's the solution:

Conclusion

Did you find all of the solutions?
