AWESOME GAME!!!
Graphics reminds me of Quake but level design is something else.
I don`t mind 2.5D engine for levels because I am used to them in Doom, Heretic, Hexen and Duke Nukem 3D.
Gameplay is however interesting with all goodies that one shooter can have: explore the level, kill enemies, unlock the door, etc.
Enemies are interesting because of ability to cripple their limbs in order to kill them or to take off its weapon, but enemy will keep fighting with what has left.
Weapons are good, but game lacks more.
Boss fights are the most interesting part of the game because you don`t have just to shoot in order to kill him.

Because I like this game. ;)

A underrated fps classic that is screaming out for a decent remaster. For its time Chasm had some impressive features especially for such a small budget game.

It has pretty great visuals. The engine uses fully 3d models while the environments are 2.5d. So this meant the game could run pretty good on less powerful pcs back in the day when compared to the more advanced Quake.

It also meant the 3d models could be pretty detailed the enemies look really good and are well animated. Its a very simple game and has its own unique charm.

It was developed by the same team who would create the more popular Carnivores series. Chasm and Carnivores even share some assets.

If anyone would create a mod that mixes Carnivores with Chasm that would be pretty freaking great.

This is a charming game: the characters, map textures and weapons have a neat design for its time. Also, the animations are very well done being a game from the 90s. Another great feature of Chasm is the ability to individually dismember different body parts from enemies and they will keep fighting with whatever they still have at their disposal if you blow off their weapon arm. But level design isn't great, with many narrow corridors and limited locations that look lacklustre in comparison to Quake's maps. In addition, there's a lack of the verticality in Chasm' levels (like you don't have lifts or lifting platforms that port you to another high parts of the map) and that put Quake above many of its contemporaries. My other criticism is that there should be a few more bosses (it is great that the developers released 3 addon levels with some new enemies and a new boss, but it wasn't enough). In conclusion, Chasm: The Rift is an enjoyable game that would have more recognition and success if it had been released a year earlier. Unfortunately, this game came in 1997 - a year after the famed Quake and even these days Chasm is regarded as a low-quality clone of Quake.

Chasm in 1920x1080, I never thought I'd see the day...
