Aside from the picture title, I worked on how to animate the characters' arms yesterday and I've probably found a solution that I will go with. Here you can see that the operator now simply let's the primary weapon hang in front when he's switched to the secondary. That will also be used whenever the hands and arms are doing other things.
Cool detail, I love when guns don't disappear when you switch them :D
I've almost got it working so that it is all one smooth motion from aiming a pistol to holstering it, then raising the primary. The pistol then sits in the holster. :)
