Control a giant mutant lizard to eat people, stomp cars, and throw things with your mutant tail which has claws for some reason. Spend points on upgrades and new abilities and try to survive an increasingly deadly hail of bullets.

Thanks, everyone, for helping to get this game Greenlit!

Update 2018-01-01

News

It's been a while since the last time I posted an update for this game, so I thought I should take some time to talk about what I've been doing since then before people start to assume I simply quit or went into a coma or something.

I made a new level about 8 months ago that I haven't really said anything about yet. It's a small beach/boardwalk area.

Here's a screenshot:
Beach level screenshot

And since I have a beach, I also needed to add elephant seals (It would be crazy not to!).

Seals

During the summer I took a break from developing this for a few weeks. Instead, I got addicted to playing Dwarf Fortress (again) spent a couple days developing my new website, medicatedgames.com, where people can maybe post comments, get updates, and report bugs. I also formed my own LLC, which I hope was a good idea because it kind of feels like I made a big mistake for some reason.

Back to the game though -- I added the ability to select story mode or free-play mode when starting the game. Story mode lets you restart from checkpoints. I've been working on a couple achievements for the Steam version, and now the game records your high score and some other stats for story and free-play modes. I was also working on adding a new monster for free-play mode, but I'll save that for a future article.

Another thing that's different now is the way the character accelerates when running, and the pose used for jumping forward. Previously, if you got a couple speed upgrades, the character would move at full speed as soon as you pressed the button.

Running

Lastly, I updated the demo, but so far I only have the Windows version ready (the Linux version got horribly screwed up and I didn't even test the Mac version yet). [EDIT: I fixed the problem that caused the error on Linux and Mac. But, seeing what the error was, I'm now baffled about how the game ever worked in the first place.] I upgraded the project to a newer version of Unity from version 4.6, so you can expect to see some new bugs.

This time the demo isn't just that one little demo scene. It has the first part of the story mode (don't get too excited, it's not that great). If you've played the Android version, you may have already seen it.

I really enjoyed this. I felt powerful, but not invincible.

The 2 glitches I noticed:

1) sometimes jumping and pressing F to stomp would not allow me to do anything other than move until I jumped and stomped again.

2) a tank got stuck behind a building but was able to shoot at me if it could see me

Would love to see a mode where you have keep a tiny character alive for a time limit or something.

Thanks for commenting.
I think I can fix that tank problem easily by checking for obstacles between it and the player. The jumping/stomping bug is something I noticed as well, but still haven't figured out why it happens.

I'm not sure I understand what your game mode idea is. Are you suggesting something where you have to defend something like an AI controlled baby monster?

cool!

and I just meant, One of the little people running around would have health and you have to guard them.

I don't know how that would fit in the game, but I've been thinking about it for a little while and it could possibly be an interesting little bonus round or something like that.

I have got to say this is a pretty fun game, like it's still early stages but I can see it has a lot of potential! (I played Windows build 3)

A few things that I'm going to comment on:
1. I didn't seem to be able to pick up cars, I'm guessing that's going to be a feature because it would be the main source of ammunition.

2. A lot of the police officers would run to the other side of the road where I couldn't do anything to them, not even the stomp was working, unless I hadn't unlocked what to do there maybe try to make it so everything the player does affects both sides of the road.

3. I'm guessing this is coming in but a lot of special effects to ad feedback would probably be a major selling point on a game like this, like maybe leaving temporary footprints and blood splatters where you kill people.

All in all though this is looking really promising! I can't wait to see how it progresses!

Thanks for the feedback!
You can pick up cars after you use the strength upgrade in the upgrades menu. At first you can only pick up smaller cars and cop cars. The second level upgrade lets you grab trucks and larger cars as well.
There's also some blood splatter already, but only in some cases (crushed or dropped). That stuff could certainly use some improvement, and I do like the footstep idea, maybe just for stomping or landing though, to add emphasis or whatever.

I'll need to think about what to do about those clever cops staying out of reach. Shouldn't be too hard to fix.

I'm happy to hear you're enjoying it so far.

Okay I must have not been good enough to get to those upgrades, but I'll keep it in mind for when I play in the future.

Oh I also meant to say, a little trick I heard a while back, is people really like it if after you adjust the volume through the in game settings if it plays a little sound so you can figure out how much you've changed it. Just a little creature comfort thing if you feel like incorporating it.

It is a good game to pick up casually and I'm sure it will only get better as you continue!

The volume thing is a good idea.
I made a note for myself to remember to do that. Right under my note to remind myself to make it so the tanks don't roll over when they hit people, even though that looks hilarious.

Thanks again!
