Apocalyptic is a small top down survival game built in Scirra Construct set after a nuclear catastrophe, and most of the worlds population is wiped out. The player must build a shelter inside a building, and then collect resources to survive against zombie attacks and rival NPCs.
I've been experimenting with actual proper 3D models in Apocalyptic, and so far this is what I've done on the walls. These are "fort walls", however, not what you build houses with. We are actually considering canning the whole "build a house" thing, and instead have whole placable buildings.
Maybe not whole houses, but a module system, so customization is still there...
The idea is interesting... what exactly did you have in mind for a module system?
I like the idea as well. Perhaps allow the player to plot out several rooms, then as they collect supplies they can increase the progress bar until they finish the room?
Wow... I have so many different ways to do this building system, it's kind of frightening. Any way I choose, it's going to be a challenge to create a system that can either recognise when a complete building has been made, or in a room building system I'll need to create a wall tiling system (if that's how to put it), which is harder than it sounds, especially when dealing with a limited 3D functionality. If only there were a poll system, I could see what everyone thought would work best...
