Many have stumbled onto modDB looking for new content to play, few have stayed to make it their home, share your story with us, how you found the site, what you were working on, what has happened over the time you have been here, where are you now?

Was the site a stepping stone to something bigger, or just a place you like to chill?

Leave your stories and share your love of modding and development with the rest of us.

Looking forward to seeing some interesting articles.

Lets see I first found the website when I was fishing around for mods on the internet then I landed on one of the moddb pages, looked around liked what I saw in the website then signed up. What got me hooked into moddb was how open it is. By open I mean in modders showing progess of works they are doing, being able to communicate to people making the mods and all the transparency in modding development. Before I signed up I had no idea how anything in games were made. All of this fascinated the younger me.

At that time I was 17 ish and like alot of uneducated people on the subject I always wanted to make a game of some sort. At that time I always dreamed of releasing a game without knowing the incredible hardships of working alone. So I sticked around for a few months to help learn how things are done which really helped my personal development in all areas. Of course now I have more of a realistic view and a better skillset to assist my end goal while slowly chipping away at this long road to development.

Moddb has shaped my life alot I know I can say that, without it I doubt I would be able to follow my dream without failing weeks into it. I can do what I love and maybe oneday start sharing my progress to everyone on moddb.

Thanks moddb for being bloody awesome!

Sorry if I am doing this wrong, but at this point who fucking cares.
This place sucks. Its put together well, and is great and all that, but of the TWO GAMES
I come here to mod, each and every heading for a game mod just takes me to a description of the mod with a bunch of bs about the author wanking himself over his work.
NO download links, in about 90% of what I am looking for.
This site is just rather useless to me for what I need.

I was doing some Doom modding. Got my mod semi done and then got bored of it. Tried Quake modding and alternated between Doom and Quake. Went to a school about game development sometime later, and did some work in the industry. Then I got depressed, because no one respected/supported my career choice when it mattered. Sometime later I quit the job. Haven't done anything useful since. Lost all my friends. Changing/starting my projects again and again like once a month from not being satisfied with anything I do.

Don't know if things are going better or worse now. Sometimes it still feels like there's nothing worth doing. But at some point not doing anything starts to feel worse than failing at doing something. Can't think of anything else to do either, all/most my skills are related to game development, and don't have other/any interests.

So I guess I just keep on failing at game development :|

First found this site when i was fishing for some Half-Life mods and Strategy game addons, after a rather boring and awkward beginning i rest my case and entered the MODDB sanctuary, if i dare explain any further i might just bore everyone so that settles it.
