Hey. I know that people here from time to time have ideas for MMOs, but get told that its waaaay too hard.

That was until now. Oh its still going to be work, but a lot less.

Realm Crafter MMO-maker is due to be released mid to late July of this year, and promises to give you sophisticated tools to make your own MMO right out of the box.

Tools include:

A World editor, used to put together game areas and levels, place scripts on actors, set event triggers and waypoints, place NPC's and monsters, and designate area transitions in the virtual world.

A Terrain Editor that creates mesh terrain real-time and uses a spray paint technique of map texturing.

The Actor Editor is the editor you use to add all playable characters, monsters, bosses and NPCs to your game. T

The Particle Editor is the editor you use to design the particle system effects for your game. You can set up different effects to be used by the World Editor, the scripting language, or other parts of the engine.

The Item editor is used to design the items that you want in your game. These items could be anything from magical swords to laser guns, potions to med packs. Attributes of each item can be set using this editor.

The scripting Editor is the tool you would use to design your scripts written in the powerful Realm Crafter scripting language. scripts are used to customize your game by adding behaviors, attributes, actions to actors and the game world.

If you really have coding skill, you can use BlitzBasic and Blitz3d to begin altering source code and make your game highly unique.

No, Im not selling the software LOL...just thought others might be interested in finding out about it.

With the number of people who will buy the software, only certain games will stand out from the pack based on storyline, art assets, and the actual content.

Hope this perks someone's interest. After working on our project with slow results, it definitely perked ours.

Have fun,

- Apok

It's so good its bad. Too much people are going to be using it, which means tons of the same kinds of games and gameplay and so on....

there are already a few WYSIWYG MMORPG makers, not the most accessable things, but not that hard either

the problem is bandwidth

I'll say, where does one get the bandwidth and the server to actually run their MMO?

there are going to be so many problems. Thing is, there are already too many MMORPG's out there that have a vast audience already. plus i cant imagine what the developers of current MMOs might think about this tool "You mean i wasted 4 years coding this engine just for some jackass to come out with a tool that does everything i did for them?!?!"

And as stated by Ambershee, in roder to run the game, you gotta have a $3,000(minimal) dedicated server.

Could be interesting though.

Not true. It doesnt need a $3000 server. For 100$-200$ you can get a 1000gb transfer which will run about 1000 people for average mmo use for a month.

If you doubt my statistics, do a google for "Dispelling MMO Myths" and feel free to read.

I definitely agree that there could be a lot of terrible MMOs produced with this BUT

thats where your own personal assets, models, maps, sounds, and music come in! This should be the new mod darling, because you can set up skills, guilds, whatever you want to make a full MMO instead of just another HL2 mod.

Sure the better games made with this will require coding, but so do mods now.

$200 a month is still $2400 a year ;)

It could be interesting to see what we can actually do with it before slandering it mind.

True. For someone with a decent job (not a slam just a comment) having been out of college 200$ is doable if the game is a priority in your life. If it becomes commerically viable think of it as an investment.

Actually I should be publicizing it less since that would lead to competition, but I just felt that modders might get more/different functionality out of this...as well as it could be a resource for all the people who say "I want to make a mod but I need a team."

It will be interesting as you said to see what comes out of it.

yea you can make your own and import them.. but i highly suggest using an engine that isnt just drag and drop.. no matter how much they say you can customize, its still going to have their tags all over it and generally be the same linear one way gameplay. nice find though. almost as interesting as that fpscreator.

It doesnt have to be linear by any stretch. There have a scripting language that gives you lots of options.

Of course to really do something unique you would need to have a coder who knows Blitz3d, but if you wanted to make something that you and 100 friends can play you could.

This program is for 3 types of people:

1) just want to use what they give you to set your own game rules and custom map

2) dont mind buying or making models, animations and sounds to port into the system

3) use a full mod group (or more) to alter the source and create something unique.
