In the jobboard there seems to be a mass of composers offering their work. Maybe 1 new portfolio a day (?) ... or am I wrong? Why is it that there are so many composers? Are their big differences or do they all sound the same way? |

There is , actually , a lot of people that is able to "do music"/"produce music" , and of course lots of professional composers , but how many of them are actually video game music composers ? For a professional video game composer, the "music itself" it's only the 50% of the work , the other 50% goes for interactive music systems , music implementation , advanced composing techniques (branching, layering) , game engine knowledge ... etc ... Probably most of that adverts belong to people that produces incredible great music , you better look into how much they know about that other 50%. |

Sonotrigger is absolutely right. Music talent isn't that rare, and most of the people you'll find posting are working with just a MIDI keyboard and a USB Microphone without any real industry experience. Implementation is easily half the job. |

Ok... is that really so important to know about these programming things? Thought it would go like: You do the music - we do layering, implementation and so on. How to learn such things? |

You can start reading something like this for example : It would give you a general idea of what a video game composer should "do" and some tools to achieve it. PS: I am only recommending this particular book because is the one I found the most interesting but you can seek for other references on any store. |
