The PSP is amazing. It's pretty much a portable media player plus a digital camera (pictures, video)... and whatever else addons companies or people can come out with. I like the fact it uses USB 2, allowing you to hook up anything you want (theoritcally).

Yah... I preordered the PSP, anyone else?

I preordered it. I may have to wait until its second shipment, but I did put down $50. I also might be able to get a game for a week or so, seeing as how I need to balance my paychecks. :P

Lol, well, my family was all about video games back even when I was about 4 years old. My mom bought us an NES for Christmas, and then the next Christmas, she got us the SNES. Then, my brother got a job, and he bought us the Sega Genesis, PS1, N64, Dreamcast, and the PS2. My brother and I saved up a bunch of money and bought the Gamecube and Xbox. Right now, I finally got a job, so I will be basically taking over for him.

So, all in all, I own a lot of major consoles, including all of the Nintendo handhelds. I'm one big video game geek :P

Plus, the PSP looks amazing, so I can't not buy it. :)

Check out some of these great games coming to the PSP, either at launch or in the future. They look very promising.

----------------------------------------------------

Lumines - Gamespot.com
A Tetris killer in the sense.

Coded Arms - Gamespot.com
The first FPS for the PSP, and a really nice looking one at that.

Metal Gear AC!D - Gamespot.com
Obviously well-known game. You may feel turned-off by the card gameplay, but if you watch the gameplay footage, it actually looks really cool. Debuts with the PSP on March 24th.

Rengoku: The Tower of Purgatory - Gamespot.com
Very, very cool third-person action title that will surely stand out from the rest. You're able to customize your android from top to bottom, and take him online. Debuts with the PSP on March 24th.

Vulcanus Online - Gamespot.com
Third-person mech shooter. It looks like a hell of a lot of fun as well.

---------------------------------------------------

Those are just a few of the promising PSP titles that are coming out this year. For more titles and information relating to the PSP, check them out here: Gamespot.com

a MGS card game was the gayest most retarded idea for cashing in ever. they turned MGS from a mature stealth game to a turn based rpg for kids wtf.

edit: and dont even try cover up the fact that that game IS tetris and nothing more

Mar 13 2005 Anchor

Um, it is definitely not Tetris. It's actually a real different perspective, with all of the addictiveness attached onto it. It looks like a pretty fun game, which is why GameSpot gave it a 9.0 in the first place. It might be the first game I buy for the PSP, because it'd keep me busy for long lengths of time. :)

And besides, you have to give MGA a chance first. You can't be so quick to assume that it was a bad idea. I think it's better that they went ahead with a whole new idea rather than doing more of the same. I like the look of MGA, imho.

or they coulda spend their resources making a new game that isnt a spin off sequl

Mar 13 2005 Anchor

You mean Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3? All of them were distinctly different from the other. You always have to give something a shot, and this looks like they're really going all-in for something unique.

It looks like fun. I mean, I always liked turn-based strategy games, and this definitely looks to be putting a nice highlight on the genre. I don't see why it's bad :S

Please tell me how? even the stroyline was the same, oh and don't tell me things like eating made it different, its like saying all the GTA 3's were distinctly different from each other

Mar 13 2005 Anchor

All three storylines were different. One had you seeking the secrets of Metal Gear and FOX Hound, the other had players take the role of a one-man army determined to stop a deadly high-tech weapon from falling into the hands of a highly elite resistance group known as Dead Cell, and the third has you going around a huge forest in Vietnam on a research mission only to find out that there's a lot more to it than you think.

Wrap this up with some of the greatest character development and storytelling found in practically any franchise, and you got the best and most interesting games out there.

And by the way, so far, there have only been two spin-offs, so don't get ahead of yourself. MGA is a game on its own. It doesn't need a number in front of it to be a part of the franchise :P

The PSP game is once again trying to innovate in a genre that's usually not used to such mature content. This is definitely not for kids, if all you can think of that it is a part of the turn-based strategy realm. You need to look much deeper than that, because all you're doing is looking at the surface, which you definitely shouldn't do if you're a real gamer.

HOW IS A CARD GAME INNOVATIVE?? Hey and guess what other games have been based on cards lets see, Digimon and Beyblade come to mind, thats some mature gaming for you.

oh and as for your differing stories between msg 1 + 2

One had you take the role of snake to find a top secret high tech military(bad guys) weapon. The second had you take the role of snake and that other guy to find and stop a top secret high tech weapon from being used by terrorists(bad guys)

dont think im dissing MGS seeing as I have no problem with the games but this is the worst idea EVER

Mar 13 2005 Anchor

Disgaea was a humongous hit on the PS2, because it offered deep and rich gameplay on a turn-based strategy surface. It wouldn't have sold so much if other people didn't find that true as well. Digimon and Beyblade are strictly card games. This is a turn-based strategy action game using cards. Both aren't even in the same league, because MGS has always been on the mature spectrum, and not a silly little show for kids to spend all their money on buying collectible cards for. There is much more to this game than that.

You need to stop being such a pessimist. Everything is THE WORST EVER to you. Why don't you try the game and then form your opinions? All you're doing is badmouthing the idea with your ignorance. Go beneath the surface and see what kind of gameplay is going to be held. All you see is cards. Don't be so naive.

I don't see how you can be so critical of it otherwise.

how can i try the game when u dont even have PSP's in europe. and not everything is the worst ever but quite a lot of gaming is nowadays. And Karuto, how about you stop being such an optimist, everything for you is the next best game ever when they obviously do just copy other ideas.

MGS card Game And Tetris rip off being 2 of them

Mar 13 2005 Anchor

Um, this is probably the first time you have even heard of Lumines. It's a good-looking game made from the creator of Space Channel 5, and it looks pretty addicting. It's not even close to the style of Tetris, but fits into that style. The reason it's called a Tetris Killer is because it's one of those games that are as addicting as Tetris, and that's about it.

You can always buy a PSP on Ebay. You can get them there cheaper. The only thing you won't be able to do is play movies, but you can play games, listen to music, and trade images with it (it's Region-Free).

The MGS card game copies another person's idea? Where the hell do you see a game even close to the likes of Metal Gear AC!D? It's not like Disgaea because it's more Mature-oriented, has a realistic design, and includes cards. It isn't like Digimon because there are humans on the board and not monsters, not to mention its target demographic is for 17+ year olds.

EDIT: And the reason I'm being this way is because I selected the games for the PSP THAT I'M INTERESTING IN! Out of the long line-up of games, I chose the ones listed above because I found them very interesting, so of course I'm going to be in full support of them. MGS and Lumines look great, so I'm going to defend them.

I don't see how it has any resemblence to Tetris, Darkcyde. First off, there's a line shifting through the screen horizontally that, when rolling over the cubes, breaks those that have four blocks or more around them, causing large chains. Secondly, the gameplay is different from Tetris (you aren't breaking lines, you're breaking blocks). Thirdly, the pieces don't drift down vertically, but rather stay in one place as you switch them however you like. Fourthly, the pieces break apart if the space below isn't wide enough to accomodate it. And finally, it's a puzzle game, and NOT ALL PUZZLE GAMES ARE ALIKE! Sheesh, look at games like Kirby's Avalanche and Super Puzzle Fighter. They're not the same game as Tetris, and Lumines is another game that does not fit as well.

Just because I gave it a little nickname doesn't mean it's Tetris :|

Oh, and by the way, Tetris has music. :P
