Hi people,

Where do you guys get sound effects from ? obviously i know alot of people just use the sounds that come with a game they are modding but what about for udk projects.

At the moment I'm not too concerned with getting sound files but i know i will need to start thinking of that stuff soon enough. Once that time comes and i need a full library of sound effects built i will look for a sound engineer but right now i just want some place holder sounds. I have ambient sounds and such but right this second i'm looking for something kinda specific.

Policeinterceptor.com <<< this is the kind of sound i am after but i cant seem to find anywhere that has something simular to download and the page i got that link from has no download link and right clicking the link doesnt give a save target as option.

So after that disjointed non english explaination does anybody have a link for a decent free sound library or even just a klaxon styled alarm sound they can donate my way :)

well you could always record your own or use very old game maker software sound files , Id probably recommend Klick and play for its sound library however id not be 100% sure of the legalities of using them , Freeware sound file librarys are abounds usually they come in the included disc with those game magazines.
Pretty much I normally have some mates that are sound people and normally ask them if they can do something for me... but nothings stopping you from getting outside with audio recording devices.

The best place to get sounds is from a sound designer.

If you just want temp sounds go to something like this:

Opengameart.org

If you're wanting a very specific sound that you can't find then you're leaving the realm of "placeholder" and you should find a sound person.

yeah i dont want to start looking for sound designers and such until i have more for them to work with so i guess for now i will just have to use what i can find and will think about getting the "perfect sound" when the time demands it.

you won't get a pefect sound without an sound designer. many composers do sound design and as we all know... composers are everywhere! :)
But if you insist to do it on your own, here are some helpful sites:

Freesfx.co.uk
Soundsource.servus.at
Soundjay.com
Pacdv.com
Grsites.com

and yes, they are all free ;)

thank you kind sir :D

and yeah i know i wont get perfect with out a dedicated sound guy to do it, but right now i dont think i would be wise to try recruiting people with what i have. so free and readilly available online is the way i need to go right now :)
