What I am looking for is a sentence or a paragraph of your feelings on what mods mean to you? If you spam this thread I will ban and delete you! PS: Thanks for replying! I went to a internet cafe and they had HL TFC on the pc and I was in awe. I had to play. I spent 40 bucks and stayed all night. I found my new hobby! |

I get occasionally exceptional quality games for no price, often completely new games with completely innovative ideas, made by people just like me. --

everyone(at least the stupid kids who usually play RA2)says "it's only a game!" when we talk about storylines and rant about their lame ieas, but i think otherwise, modding can be fun, sure you can make things ridiculous, if your mod is meant to be funny, however, you still won't say "it's only a game!" and do what you do half-heartedly. I believe this is the thinking that caused westwood's attempt at FPS, C&C Renegade, go down the drain, it was a lousy attempt at putting the player into the unique world of command&conquer tiberian dawn, you look at other games which are based on alternate history story lines, Iron Storm for example, it's a great game. This attitude, plus the fact that RA2 is very easily moddable, gave rise to the many n00b mods for RA2, im glad there arent many such mods for other(popular, moddable, usually FPS) games, and that people put in their utmost effort to create mods which are original, yet realistic and credible creativity is not bringing something to the level of being ridiculous |

modding is giving all of us who are too poor to actually go out and buy games, and too lazy to pirate them a chance to play new games for free -- ___________________________

Modding, can be sort of skills test. As you progress with the mod, you learn new stuff and it might help enchance existing skills (graphics, text writing and coding). Hmm.. mods can be also temporary fixes for games. Espicially for these games' developers which stop updating the games after 1 year the game has been shipped. -- Project Director of C4 Commando |

well without mods the world whould sux (games are only thing wich makes me forget how much the world sux) cause when people make a g ame they cant follow ALL demands, but moders DO! So there fore i like the moders more than i like the game makers! THANK YOU ALL! -- "Pain Is Temporarly, Glorys Eternal!" |

hey ever tried direct connect or oDC? Cause u do know eve tought it is illigal they wont be able to stop it... every day more than 500k people start using downloading programs! (Please dont bann me) But i think that yes gaming companys will go under if no1 buys the games, but untill they are to cheap to get anti burn/crack files on theyr cd:s its their fault, im a poor! So dont come calling me cheap cause i use those burning files when game makers alreddy have 500 million cash... -- "Pain Is Temporarly, Glorys Eternal!" |

guess it's no surprise that INtense said it best... mods give the most bang for ur buck. the base games are usually a compromise... for system specs, for gamers' skills, etc. mods create a more, errm, intense environment that pushes players' abilities, systems, vid cards, etc. as far as what mods mean to me personally.. they mean the difference between playing a game for a couple of weeks, to playing a game for a year or more. - Edited By Lexor On Sat 28th, Dec 2002 @ 1:32:33am |

Well for me it's the mostly the freedom that is given to gamers. Example: imagine you've been waiting years for a decent starship troopers game, but it never came to be...then just create one of you're own. Plus you've pretty much got total freedom in what kind of mod it'll be. In a sense, it's an easy way to create you're own game. |

Mods are fun (usually more than the game it's for) and extend the life-span of They allow you to create something that ordinarily wouldn't have been created, they allow you explore some idea or fantasy that looks better in reality (or on your computer screen) than in your mind and also lets the creator improve their programming/mapping/3d skills whilst they are looking for work in the gaming industry. I spent the last three years just thinking about mods and creating one, did I waste my time or did I do something worthy? Just seeing a lot of mods collectively here makes me feel happy. Here is my mod :- SuperHeroes Arena for Quake 3 |

mods to em are freeb's and try to get to a retail status the mod team, also when looking for work in the games develement indrustry can show the mod in the resume, and say what they did. if the mod is big then it could be posible that the develment team that they apply for is going to employ them as they have played the mod, and enjoy it dose that sound right ( my brain is faster then my hands) -- One of the worst annoyances of video gaming is designers who interrupt the players' immersion in order to remind them "Don't forget, it's only a game!"These cute gimmicks don't improve the players' experience; they harm it. |
