733MHz GeForce3. I can rival that with a simple k7 600.

You can upgrade the Xbox but its useless doing so, for starters games are specifically optimized to run on a strict hardware, not like a PC game that slides depending on how much RAM and so forth. Upgrading the Xbox HD is useful though, you can store games on it instead of burning to DVD, tis what my uncle does :)

yeah true, oh and i checked the link that was previously posted and i saw the other system specs on the other systems.

I just dont get how an X-Box can run games perfectly smooth and the PC doesnt when it has system stats 4x better?

Post why.

Because of Operating Systems ™.

Windows is a big system hog. While you're playing your game, Windows is carrying on its usual life of fooling around doing useless things, and poking around where it shouldn't be poking. Not only the OS, most computers run about 15 programs at the same time (hit ctrl-alt-delete and see what I mean).

Consoles, on the other hand, keep enough OS to make sure that games can run. They probably have about 5% the amount of background activity as a PC. X-Box, for instance, uses a stripped down version of Windows 2000. All that's really left of W2k is the ability to show a stupid fancy intro and play games specifically designed and optimized for it. Since there are all sorts of PCs, video cards, sound cards, configs, and stuff, PC games have to dedicate a bit of their time to supporting all that. On the other hand, all X-Boxes are pretty much the same, so all games built for it will run perfectly fine (unless the programmers suck, which happens alot sadly). All X-Boxes have either a GF3 or 4, so you don't have to worry about stuff that, for example, GeForces support but Radeons or PowerVRs (:P) don't.

That's why I like DOS O_o

Oh, and this is a worthwhile read :) (A comment from that specs site someone posted)

I do not really care about the other console’s, why do you have to bring them into this to defend the xBox. It is great that is “high-powered” heater that does not have any loading time, the cube has minimal loading time, and the PS2 well, I wont even go there. All that heat and no cooling for no loading time, that’s a huge trade off, but I guess you can sit by it in the winter time. How are they increasing graphics again? Even if they did, you still do not need all of that crap that they have inside to play games. Microsoft made a huge error in adding 10 gigs of space that they will never need and DVD capabilities. I thought this was supposed to be a gaming system, all about the games remember. Just take a close look @ PS2 DVD player. One of the worst skipping pieces of machine ever, I don’t think I have ever been able to watch a whole DVD through with out that crappy thing telling me there was a disk error. With so much more not needed crap in the xBox, well, you get the picture… Maybe I was too hasty for the games, if anything, Halo looks decent enough to play, but do not make yourself look like a fool. Everyone knows and there is no doubt that PS2 has the best third party support for now and probably will for a while unless some thing drastic changes, like PS2 goes out of business which I doubt. “Flock” is totally the inappropriate word there boy. Square, one of the leading third party partners for any system is not really warming up to the xBox and Microsoft will still have concept approval over all Xbox games, though the company has mentioned that it will be a bit less strict than Nintendo, and a little more close-minded than Sony. Ouch! Not much room there. I went and did some investigating and it look like the xBox has quite a few publishers waiting to make games, but again, its quality over quantity, so just because we have 2nd rate publishers making 3rd rate games does not give it any merit. Wow, really, Sony is coming to the xBox? I am so happy for you, how many games are the giving away? One? What shame, like that will make a difference. Lastly, not only are the graphs up on the site not accurate in depicting other consoles, they are also misleading about there own. The company further continues to claim that the fill rate doesn't budge when processing textures and effects. Rumor has it, however, that the fill rate is far from pleasing. Given the recent drop in specs it's not too far-fetched of a rumor. The performance sheet completely glosses over the fact that the xBox has to share that 6.4GB/s of memory bandwidth between the CPU, sound chip, and graphics chip. This is in contrast to GameCube and PS2 which have over 12.8GB/s of texture bandwidth alone. Further, GameCube has the added advantage of a dedicated 1.6GB/s bus between the sound chip and its own dedicated A-memory. Needless to say the Xbox doesn't have anything to brag about when it comes to memory bandwidth. The unproven unified memory architecture is still questionably effective. The truth is that GameCube could do 256 channels of sound, but most developers won't be able to squeeze that much performance out of the GameCube‘s sound DSP. We suspect the same can be said about Xbox's sound chip. It may be able to process 256 channels on its best day, but when the console is running a real game that number will probably be decidedly lower. Why do they go ahead and give Nintendo a N/A? They know what is up. This is just some basic information so that everyone may know the truth before they go out and buy there xBox. I am not saying that they should not, go ahead, but they should be warned of what they are buying. No on likes false advertisement, would you?

That was pretty interesting, thanks for posting that,

Ive heard that the PS3 is gonna have an actual desktop and all that shiznit, but im not sure.

This may seem like its out of the question, but is it possible that people will be able to slow down the OS system so gaming will get better frame rates?

Or could you disable the OS system only when your in a game?
