Hi all, I'm a relatively new webdesigner but so far I believe I've done some gd work. The only way for me to get better is to get some experience. I'm looking for a mod to join and I would design and maintain a website for them. No, I'm not looking for money, just the experience.

My current website is: My Site

So if your interested just post in this topic and I'll get back to you straight away. Any comments on my current site would be appreciated as I'm always interested in improving my work.

have any of the image files got spelling errors or in capitals in them?
windows will over look capital errors when on windows, but most web servers won't.

Well I know the geocites one works, I just like my Uni host, no ads obviously, I'll try and get that fixed.

Fixed.

With all due respect, your site looks very crude. It lacks overall organization, the colors don't work together, and the entire design leaves a lot to be desired.

I really think you need to improve your skills tenfold before trying to join a mod team under web designer only ;)

i dunno i srota like it, its simple and straight forward and no buggy flashing things getting in the way, even like the fact its not as big as the whole screen =\ or maybe thats just on my comp... dunno i just like simplicity and this provides just that :D

And the point is -- I'm a big noob at this whole HTML thing and I have no knowledge of PHP. Lol, I don't mean to be that crude, but to be honest, I just think you're still new to website design ;)

Do you do anything to do with non HTML (more specifically PHP or MySQL?)

If you're doing webdesign, unless you're using CSS, there will still be an amount of HTML required.

At the moment it's just CSS and HTML.

it is slightly plain and i think the banner taking up a third of the space is an issue but it is very clean and nice on the eyes. good luck

Thanks for all your comments guys. I've made another site for the HL2:Invasion mod (now Combine Assault). The site can be found at: City17.wehostforfree.com. I was not responsible for the host and the actual site should look like:-

Also working on another design here:-

I will also be working on php over the next couple or weeks as part of my degree.

i'm sorry, but if I may voice my opinion, I think iframes in the middle of a page look stupid and unprofesional, that reflects in no way your talent in designing a page. I would totally go for a new look with that half life web page, or redesign the way content is viewed.

Did you ever think that the team he is designing the page for asked him to put the i-frame in the middle. And why would it matter where the i-frame is, putting it off to the side is no harder and no more professional.

The first website you shown needed some kind of centralisation in the banner, some image there which I'm sure you'd be able to do. All the designs are nice on the eyes though. Which is good.

Another thing that I would mention is to get your own reliable website up, it would act as a standalone support for anyone wanting to view your work.

I'm certainly no expert but just my oppinion.

- I know this is your opinion. But what if he designed it with an iFrame??? - I know i designed my old site with an iFrame as it helped the other pages run along with the design nicely: Pg-design.tk ... Im now working on a flash site at the minute though.

Awesome work, I don't mean to pressure you into anything but our mod just re-began after a few mishaps! Check it out in my signature link, or contact me over AIM: Postypostyposty or MSN: Posteh@gmail.com

Thanks!

There's nothing wrong with an IFrame, IMO. I specifically intended to have one in there. It's supported by IE and Firefox. I've updated the main site to fix for other code that caused the site to have an error in Firefox such as image links. IE6 and FF combined account for about 84% of browsers.

I've also added another site to the design section that I've made. Check it out if your interested. This also means I can help people with their mods again. I'm also learning php at the moment.

P.S. If a mod reads this could you please move this thread to the mod discussion section. Thanks.

Edit: Oh an thanks for the constructive comments guys. This is helping me learn.
