I am developing an app and was wondering if any software might exist to help. Specifically, I want a simple app that will allow me to take a video or pics of a neighborhood. If possible, I would like software to convert the neighborhood to a 3d cartoon-ish (not absolutely required) format. <--- only used to set up in advance and not for the user. A convert once. Next I want the user to select a character that can run around the neighborhood and walk up to any door. At the point they arrive at the door, I have another piece of software that will take over. Simply, a neighborhood where a character can walk or run. Is there any software that will help create this? It needs to run within a web browser for a desktop, PDA (including Iphone and and blackberry palm pre). Thanks in advance. <!-- google_ad_section_end --> |

Your best bet would be to develop this in flash and script it with actionscript and make it a 2d application. There is absolutely no software that can make a 3d neighborhood from a video. That is nearly impossible to do and I won't expect something like that to be available for many years. But like I said before, it may be beneficial to develop it in flash and actionscript. This may be off topic, but why would anyone play something where they just walk around a neighborhood? Is this specifically for testing purposes? Edited by: infl1ct1on |

There's two options. 1. Use Flash or Director. MMF2 can do web-based applications both in Java and its own special format- there's also talks to support Flash in the near future. Director can export to an applet to run of the web as well and its much easier to use then Flash due to using a much more simplified language compared to ActionScript. Flash should only be used if you're decent at Programming/Animation. The other two however are perfect if you're just new to 2D Web Engines. There's plenty of applications that support applets too such as Torque 2D and 3D but those require a lot of programming. And for what you are suggesting it's really not worth going to too much trouble because the concept is easy. Edited by: formerlyknownasMrCP |
