Warhammer 40K SP Mod Thread

I'm currently designing a Single Player Mod for either Doom 3 or Half Life 2. It's based on the Games Workshop world of Warhammer 40K, with the player taking the role of an Imperial Assassin.

Now l know the 'Assassin' role has been done before (Hitman and the like) but l think l have a good initial design to make this 'different'. So l am just asking whether people think there is room in the world for a mod like this.

If people are interested l'll post so details about what l am planning to do...

How do you mean? Like Fantasy Warhammer?

Games Workshop will actually smash you for this. Believe me - WH40K mods have stopped cos of their threatening lawsuits.

One only recently release a Beta...

there hasnt been real sueing or lawsuits from GW at any mod project as far as i know... . just interesting letters from different persons of the company with interesting and different messages... . about a year earlier they could be summed up with being warnings to mod developers.

I would still like to do this mod, but my greatest concern for doing an SP mod was that the GW is already doing a game (Fire Warrior). But since I am not planning on having any Tau in the Mod, nor their weapons, I thought I would be alright.

If GW aren't going to make any real, games based on Warhammer, why should they sue? These guys are suporting the community!

My thoughts as well...

As long as you don't try to make a RTS or board game of the GW then your not really 'cutting into sales'. I shall continue planning for Half Life 2, which looks to be the winner of the 'we support modders' race against Doom 3, plus the fact I've played with the orignal HL code and it was quite nice to use from a programmers point of view. No if only I could model as well...

Just email them asking for a proper answer from the opinion of the head of the company.

If they say no, just make 'Harwammer' (you know what I mean)

if you state that it is unofficial you should be ok, i mean you not doing it to get money.

Anyway include the tyranids i want to see big battles with hordes of aliens

I hadn't planned on having Tyranids in it, but a few large battle missions are likely with you as just a 'small part'.

Mind you if I can find someone who would like to do Tyranid 3D models...

Sounds like fun game if ya make it i wanna play does sound like a Hitman game tho
