U3 Engine Mods? | Locked | |

Yeah its a bit early especially when Epic doesn't haven have a name for the next UT using the new engine, but I was just curious if there are groups already planning some mods for it? Just seeing the level of detail and what can be done with it hasn't gotten me excited about games/mods for a long time and just want to know if anyone has plans already. |

I'll stop my mod development after "STALKER Theft Auto", and will be having a job with EA games. But who know's... i personally want to see some "Ghoul engine Technology" updated with today's upcoming engines. But again, who know's i already thought about porting "STA" over to U3 engine, as my teachers support the software beta data at my college. While every other week teach us something new once a week, and base our projects off it. |

Um... you won't have any engine mods without the sourcecode released, and that will definitely not happen in the nearest time -- |

I believe they call it UNreal 3, and I doubt anyone is thinking about modding this engine yet...they just now got to demos of early stuff, we prolly wont see this engine in the next year... -- snetErz.com - Web Design |

Actually, I have plans because of its vastly higher level of physics interaction, around 2000 in the latest tech demos comparable to our current 30, higher when using a physics dedicated card they are trying to push with the technology. As well, I hear of a few people with plans to leap on whatever Epic misses in their latest UT iteration, such as the Assault Resurrection team did in 2003, and you can find rare but a bit of talk towards current unreal community teams on what they think of UE3. And spector, they let leak a bit of a new UT, but were not forthcoming in that being their definitive next project, and have actually stated they hoped to be moving towards a new intellectual property, so the next Unreal Engine may not be first with an Unreal game. Not to mention that at least five well known developers have signed on to use it, so we may all end up modding something else. |

To clarify on what Vangor said, they are working on two titles we know of. A game which is believed to be an X-Box 2 launch title, Gears of War (nothing confirmed though), and of course the next title in the UT series. There have been no mods started on any games running the engine. That's due to no firmly annouced titles (Engine Licenses have been annouced, but thats it), and it would be stupid to start with little information on the modding aspect of it. |

Ummm, that's not what he meant. He meant mods on the unreal 3 engine, not mods to the unreal 3 engine! -- Defeat in Detail 2 - Standalone RTS Game |

Well, there is one game planning on using the Unreal 3.0 engine, and that's BioWare. I'm pretty sure most people are aware of this. When they're making the RPG, they signed a deal with Epic Software so that they get to use the RPG elements BioWare creates and use them as a modified engine for other people to use, I do believe. That means that people can mod an RPG form of Unreal 3.0, which would be interesting indeed.

Ippo, that isn't what it means at all actually, Bioware gets use of the engine itself, while Epic retains rights to the source code, all t hat Bioware adds to the engine and the slight changes they are allowed to make are solely theirs. It merely mentions it is the first time Bioware and Epic have signed a contract, they are not actually working together. Plus, Midway has signed with em, as have two smaller developers I wish I could locate the names of who are comprised of somewhat veterans, and I think Bioware is doing actually two engine liscensings, and Team X-Box has one in the works if not completed. While Epic lacks the massive community of Valve which they deserve, they sell a mass of engine liscenses, I think it was nearing 13 titles on the X-Box alone using it. |

Released Titles List An extremely impressive list, and I doubt there is going to be that many licenses made of Source. |
