Tribes vengeance is a great game in all kinds of ways,
Doom 3 isn't good in all kinds of ways.
So thats why im kindof confused when they get almost the same grades in the PC Magazines.

Tribes is variated and you get to do everything from driving vehicles to crazy fraggin'.
The graphics arn't that far away from Doom 3 either, if not almost the same class.
Variated environments with inside action aswell as outside maps.

Personally I think that Doom 3 sure do has nice graphics and
some cool weapons. And I also think that it was alot of fun at the beginning, but after a while it gets kindof boring to walk around in those dark walkways.
Also there's almost no variation in the environment, except for those really small parts of the game when you get to walk outside for a short distance.

Now to the issue, the big magazines gives them the same grade.

Why?

Tribes veng looks only like a beefed up ut2k4 :P Also they've changed from the really revolutionary torque engine to the unreal engine, and that means that they've lost a big thing in my (and many other gamers) eyes :P

Doom3 isn't anything revolutionary, but it is a hella good shooter, i've completed it without a sign of boredom. The game actually gets better with every moment of playing:P

But still, i don't see the point in comparing these games - both are different and made for different gamers :P

Read PA. Tribes was a disappointment - it turned a unique tactical teamgame into a UT2k4/BF1942 clone. I think it was about perspective - Doom gave people what they expected, a fun survival-horror FPS, with tickmarks taken away because it was too dark. Tribes had a legacy to live up to beyond just making a fun action game.

Plus, some people like SP a lot, as evinced by how Half-Life is still the remembered as the Greatest Game Ev4r to everyone despite having shitty deathmatch out-of-the-box.

Well mostly i want to know what you people think about the magazines giving Doom 3 such a high score.

But i also want to point out how good games like Tribes Vengeance can be put aside for BIG names like Doom 3 even though Tribes is a better game.

But well as wolf said, everyone have their own opinion.

Comparing Tribes Vengeance with Doom3 is like comparing toothbrush with paintbrush

IMO Tribes Vengeance bastardizes the Tribes series like what Unreal 2 did :(
