Have you ever wondered how it would be like if there was a Game of Thrones type of Online / MMO game? Well, i have and just when i started searching, i found out that Bigpoint is already working on a GoT MMO, together with FOX entertainment...

Now, i don't want to be pre-judgemental but usually Movies or TV-Shows turned into Games are usually a flop, and of course working with, or better working "for" FOX is like developing a game while being tied to a chair and whipped to stay as close to the TV series as possible. All in all, i don't see a great quality game come out of it, although i will certainly try it when it does come out.

Here is my question though:
If there were to be an Indie game, based on the SoIaF (Song of Ice and Fire) books by George R.R. Martin, including the environment, setting, and seven Kingdoms of Westeros, all combined into an open world for everyone to explore in a massive online experience... would that intrigue you?

A definite yes for me, although i would hope for a lot of possibilities rather than just explore and gather. A full-blown political system, for example overthrowing the King, becoming a King, recruiting Knights, fighting other Kingdoms, Houses, forming Alliances, backstabbing them, etc. etc. Sort of a way for the player to create his own story (instead of being forced into a linear storyline based on the actual tales).

What would you like to see in a game like this?

P.S. Me and a group of people are considering creating this game.. but we are unsure what people think of it so far, so suggestions and thoughts are welcome

The last franchise Bigpoint ruined was Battlestar Galactica. They launched the game when the hype was over. And they played a ton for licenses. So, they seem to have learned, since GOT will be running for quite a while longer. BUT, bigpoint is not a developer of great games, but of cashcows. So don't expect anything great from Bigpoint.

The problem with you creating a game based on Westeros in any way is that Bigpoint will send their lawyers after you faster than you can say SWAT ATTACK. They payed a ton to get this IP and they won't like other people on it. You'd better call your thing different and make a game that borrows all the good ideas, but not the names of stuff.

That's the Idea, yes. We have no intention of using names, symbols or anything that is actually IP of George R.R. Martin, NOT Bigpoint. We've done our homework on copyright infringement and we know better. For us, it is more about the books, rather than the show. But the show could certainly mean more interested people.
