Thinking about buying a laptop... Thread

Any suggestions? it doesnt have to be new or anything. in fact i'd love to pick up a cheap used one. I was thinking of buying an old mac or moybe a powerbook or something.

ooh! go for a powerbook. check out the apple store... the refurb section. you can pick one up pretty cheap. i know i wanna get one... eventually.

yeah for mac go powerbook. it's a definite must. the ibook is just lame.
if you want just a laptop, get a toshiba. they make good laptops, in fact they are the leading manufactuer (sp?) for laptops. they provide nearly everything for other brands laptops, like dell. they sell there own too, and it's cheaper. so if you get a laptop, it's gonna be a high priced toshiba basically.

you can sell your pc.... but i doubt you'd wanna do that. maybe in a few years, i'll save up for a powerbook.

yeah, he could, but that would raise up compatibility issues with games and mods for that matter. laptops are great, but you need a desktop PC

yeah, that's exactly the reason i said "i don't think you want to do that....". not many people would give up their gaming pc for a mac because it just looks nicer. :beard:

unless, on the other hand, you can stand the games on mac... and how they run. and can afford owning one.

but yeah, those powerbooks are pretty damn awesome.

my father has got a HP omnibook ... old but anyway it is, and quake works there

My laptop runs CheapHack at good speed, and lets me do my modding work. It's basically all you need

omnibook's processor is hmm pentium X 466 mhz (don't know which) 96 mb ram, 4 gb HDD (ARGH !! too small!!!), noname integrated sound card and a noname 8 mb graphics card... but it is enough to run glquake or tomazquake

*me runs unreal tournament and changes graphics detail to low and 512x384

Heh, I play everything at max at 800x600x32 on mine and it's all fine.

Run dxdiag so you can identify those suspected "noname" cards

need to clean registry

I don't think that matters, I had several installations of MAME (big arse registry hog) on it and it still breathes clearly

Ill probably run Kega, MAME, and zSNES whenever I buy a laptop. Im also looking into an IBM Thinkpad (but run Linux:D) but i still like Apple better

for some things.. i'd still stick with a PC, but for laptops and Mp3 players, Apple does in fact = teh pwnage!!
