Steam help please Thread

A few days ago I bought project zomboid on Steam, Ever since then I have not been able to use steam I think that the problem existed before then but not being able to Download my new game Alerted me to the issue. Steam will not Update the window starts the update and never finishes getting to a certain progression and returning to zero before trying again I sent in a steam ticket 4 days ago and am awaiting a reply but by all accounts this can take weeks. So what I have done to rectify the issue, I started with the easy stuff following any existing advise regarding this issue from the steam site and then google and youtube. I am now at the stage where I cannot find any other advise I have wiped my computer re-installed windows updated all my drivers I have tried allowing bootstrapper through the firewall ensuring steam is allowed and turning off the firewall cleaning the registry and several other things that I don't really understand and I am at my wits end. I understand that this is the wrong place to ask for help on this subject but any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I am running Windows 7 on a self built quad core Asus system with duel monitors on an old 9600gt Nvidia

Anyway, maybe the cause/source of this problem can be traced in Steam.log file?

\Program Files\Steam\steam.log
it's a text file, you can have a look at it and check if there are any unusual error messages related to your issue.
