Single Sex Schools Thread

For some of you, this may be a given. for some it may be unheard of. Would you rather attend/ send you kid to a co-ed school or to a single sex one?

single sex schools are "more focused on acadimics"

co-ed are rumored to give more sociol education...

So which do you consider the better plan?

co-ed :/ you can pretty much learn as much as you want in a single sex school, and be with girls and guys at the same time and socielize more

not that i like to socielize.. but i wouldent want to me thrown into a school full of guys, that would drive me insane

Good thing too. Single sex schools must suck... no girls? sometimes that would be good, but not always

We have like 7 girls out of 200 students

We only have Digital Production and Computer/network security programes... so that might be the catch.

I would never consider sending my kid to a single sex school and I would've hated it if I had been put in one (no girls!! OMG!! who would I flirt with ). I think that social education is very important, and you can learn just as much academis in a co-ed school.

why would any parent send their child away for a year and just get to see them some days now and then

My mate who shall reman nameless (always wanted to say that) lives opposite me, but instead of catchin' a bus to school every morning (the same bus I use to get to college) he has to go to a boarding school that is further away. I only get to see the d00d at weekends and on holidays. It sucks.

I would not like that... A friend of mine wen't to a single sex school... he hated it. Once he switched into a "normal" school it was like a inmate that was jsut let out of prision

But i do agree its better for work and if your a homosexual.

Singel sex schools only bennift girls in all the studies ive read.

I can see why that is. Girls help the guys but guys just wanna get in the girls way.. kinda the way life works.. man works woman stays at home.... not to sound sexistt

lets put it this way. men are horn dogs.. for the most part. they see a hot girl and its every man for its self girls are more calm... But the guys get in the way of girls work... kinda hrd to explain...

BUT WAIT I CAN EXPLAIN!!!

all the schools in the city suck. i really mean they SUCK. i'm talkin about a very low education with arabic onli....

Since i lived in california first 12 years of my life, i havent developed my arabic as much as my english, so i'm sorta weak in arabic. therefore, i can't attend a "mostly-arabic" school. There are better schools, but they are very far, and they cost a big sh*t load of money. my school (that has a little below average education standard in my opinion) costs 20,000 AED per year...6000 US dollars. and don't forget the fact that i have 2 sisters and a brother

so say we go to the infamous Dubai American Academy (one of teh bestest schools) it is 50,000 per year...u do the math.

I go to a single sex school, and I'd make the same decision again if I had to.

There's the fact that the public schools around here aren't the greatest. There's also the fact that half the people in my district are complete dousches, so I didn't really want to go there anyway. There was also the fact that my school had quite the reputation. When pushed came to shove, I gave in and went.

I haven't regretted it one bit.

The whole girl thing? Puh-leeze. It's a RELIEF not to have them around all the time. It's nice cuz we as guys don't have to worry about 'lookin' good for da ladiez' or whatever. Not to mention that this does mean I can go the day without overhearing the girl chatter of "OH MY GOD, can You BELIEVE that and she told me to say that you told ..." ugh. There's no facade for girls and so the social structure is FAR different from public schools. We have our cliques, the jocks, the band kids, the punks, and what have you. But they form from common intrests, and the level of exclusivity and need to put down others is zero to none.

Right, and just because I know it's coming. Yeah, people outside the school do throw the constant remarks that "we're all gay." Grow up. I can't say for anyone else, but at least in my area, I know for a fact that there's more gay people in the public schools then mine.

Sure its an adjustment, and not having girls is the number one issue with the freshmen (besides the dress code) but everyone gets over it by the end of the year. Get the testeroine out of your pants. You're not really that horny that you couldn't survive if you didn't see a woman in class now would you?

Besides I know plenty of girls outside of school, which adds to the next issue...

Social development. I think I'm actually better off that I went to my single sex school. First off, it's a private school with people coming in from all over the state. Freshmen year, you have no choice but to make new friends and socialize. From what I've seen, the whole socialization debate, is moot. I've never seen it, and I strongly believe that people from my school end up much better off.

I take pride in my soon to be alma mater, Bishop Hendricken, and there's nowhere else I'd rather be.
