Hi there i wonder how to get older games running well on my system. I don`t mean dos nor soundcard probs - i mean too fast GFXkarts :) or memory above 512MB.
If i play Kingpin the FPS counter jumps everytime i enter a outside part of the map.
And now (with 1024MB of ram) even q3a jitters around.

Are there any tricks, biostweaks or sumting i can do to get a smooth gameplay back.

tia, low

my System :
AMD xp 2500+
winfast A350 XT
1x 512MB and 2x 256MB Duallmode Ram
playing 4x/4x (nvidiadriver) - allready a little smoother

Try enabling vsync.

Post Win/GLQuake engines do not overspeed.

Some older games have frame rate limiters too, check if the games you are playing have them.

Another thing i have seen running riot in windows xp, is the use of Dos based games... Playing one not so long ago, my cpu load was 100% and temp rose from 38C to around 60C... this ain't right especially for my P4 2.8C :rambo:

That's really dependent on the game, especially those games with a high scene (not screen) refresh rate... playing Jazz Jackrabbit made my tbird 950 shoot up to 131F O_O

*me wonders if 131 F is a lot

I know that the original DOS Quake can be nasty, especially on the lower video modes, it jumps around like crazy. The windows versions fixed that, I think

You can also try and find a emulator, depending on wich old games you're talking about, cause all the emulator really does is to slow the game down.
