I stop playing quake 3, 3 years ago. Recently started playing again, and now every time i exit a server it asks me for my serial number?????? Than when i type it in and try to connect to another it says invalid????? Wtf happened to quake 3, this never did this to me before but now it does? Why?????????? I own a bought copy of it and i payed 50-40 bucks when it came out. Has ID software gone gay or something?

Edit: and wtf is up with quake 3 models? What is the point of having downloadable models if you can't play online with the models??? Fucking stupid

q3a always worked for me, and hey, I see custom models used everytime I play, too :|

Well if you want a "fucking stupid" key, too bad. This isn't a warez board, so you're on your own for that.

it is my key, it works but it keeps asking me to type it in???? does that mean someone else has my key typed in as well? because i am about to contact id software for being pricks. I am getting sick and tired of it keep asking for my serial key each time i log in and out. Thanks id for being assholes.

And what server do you play at so i can play with my custom model? Cause most servers don't allow it

- Edited By klowns On Fri 18th, Jun 2004 @ 6:56:11pm

i don't want a key because i bought my copy, i emailed id software and i am quite pissed because this is the first time this has ever happened. I think some little fucking cunt is using my serial number and thats why this is happening.

in ur game options, there should be an option for cd key, go there and make sure its typed in there.. Also, everytime it asks for your key, enter it, eventaully it'll stop askin. Also if ya get the invalid problem, give it a while, it goes away after so long, i got the same thing before. Like, make sure ur key is entered under every q3 mod u got, and then wait a few hours and try.

These kinds of problems happen occasionaly, independently of the game. There are solutions. Quake is a great game.
Lord Of Realms don't run in my Win XP, but I know that the game is great.

Thousands that play Quake3 everyday, and you think ID screwed up your game? Think about that. Just don't hurt yourself.

Urban Terror; then went through a dark patch where the community seemed to die down a bit, but they're back nice and strong now, even starting a port to Enemy Territory (I think its ET- well its whatever the free one is, so they can have a fully free game) :)

Oh, and I don't think insulting ID is going to get you far; they have a right to protect themselves against piracy through serial number checks and whatnot, and the COMMUNITY has a right to be protected against pricks using cheaty custom models (ie. that you can't see or whatever). If you really did buy the game, send them some evidence that you bought the game, along with your serial number, and they'll cancel it and issue you a new one, for no fee of course. What nice people, I wonder how anyone could consider them "gay" (although I'm not sure how that's supposed to be an insult :P).

Keygens give you keys that will be accepted by the game initially, ie. for offline play, but there's an extremely low chance that they'll be accepted online, as the master server has a registry of all legitimate keys that have been sold with a copy of the game.

You might think the customer is always right, but the developers have rights too and, no offence, but when the customer is acting like a disgruntled two-year-old, I've got a feeling I know who's rights are more important :|

Thats my whole point, having serial numbers are pointless. Because they only create a hassle for the person who originally bought the game. It doesn't stop anyone from using a keygen type thing. So, in the end what is the point of a serial number. Nothing.....

Jun 19 2004 Anchor

Well to be begin with it stopped it, but after 3 years its getting abit stupid, even Tribes 2 was released by gamespy and they had to give out cd-keys :S

Which is why Valve pwns, you cant hax0r there system so your cdkey is secure :)

There is a little bit of a point. You can't run the game without a seriel key right, and when the game firstly comes out, there aren't going to be any key gens right? It helps a companys initial first sales, and people who can't be stuffed purchasing a game have to wait.

Backwards thinking.

Serials are necessary to prevent piracy. Having your valid cd key guessed by a keygen is unlikely enough even on older games like Quake3, and if it is, its usually a relatively simple process to have it reissued. I'd be willing to bet that most people who need new CD keys have had them taken over a file sharing program such as KaZaA because they're stupid enough to share their whole hard drive or their games, so people can just download their key (along with five million other idiot's keys) by doing a search for "q3key". If instances of legit CD keys being guessed become too frequent, the solution is to make better key systems, not to remove key systems altogether.

stop bitchin, and if youre really so courageous then sue them, i doubt that it will do anything because its a stupid reason

pirate games are usually using the same cd-key, because usually there is only a one pirate version released on the net, so i DOUBT that its the problem with the cd-key, i think that you've just lent it to somebody, and now youre swearing without a point :P

BTW: i dont want to feel like an racist or something like that, but 3/4 of americans i've seen in my life would sue anybody for anything, just because something goes not like they wanted it to :|

I'd disagree with that actually, because the large majority of games don't have any difference (ie. containing the CD key) between the CDs that are released for them, and even if someone obtains a pirated copy of a game that is a copy of someone's installation (with CD key registered in it), there are countless CD keys floating around the internet for most games and people will try these in an attempt to get online play working. There are also actually many different CD images and rips of most popular games available; just open a file sharing program if you have one and search for the name of the game!

I know this because there was a time when I did play some pirated games, but only because there was literally no other way I could get them; my parents refuse to spend money on anything like that, and I was too young to get a job at that stage. I also never redistributed them, so I see nothing wrong with that, as I was not depriving developers of sales, or fuelling piracy. I now earn my own money and buy all games I play (if you want proof I'll send photos of me with my CDs, boxes and ever-so-sexahy manuals ;))

However, I would definitely agree with the last part, that he's just swearing without a point -- glad we all agree on that! ;)

Ahh, how many times has this popped up before; a clear sign that its getting way out of hand. Its not just America; unfortunately Australia + other nations are starting (albeit slowly) to follow their example and becoming sue-happy. :'( We need to shift the focus from placing blame to finding solutions to each others' problems. Although unfortunately, it seems that it is easier to point the finger than to offer a helping hand.

Keygenn'd Q3A keys don't even work online anyway. Same for the rest of the q3-based games.

If the CD key is in use while you play, it will tell you if it's in use (not Invalid key).

Perhaps Punkbuster banned your key?

And it's a game, get over it.

A CD key program, more commenly known as a KeyGen, generates a CD key using the same algorithim as the game.

Whatever let this topic die, I am quite pissed though you people don't think I have a right to be pissed. That sue thing was just a say, I always say I am going to sue this person or sue that person. But I am only joking.

You people aren't pissed because this isn't happening to you so, you don't even understand the situation. And I have punkbuster installed. and to cheapalert, yes thats exactly what I get "not Invalid key".Thats what it says, but some people tell me that quake 3 isn't as good as it use to be. Meaning that is slower at checking your key now adays, like I could have just exited a game and gone to a new one, but for some reason it still thinks I am at the other game. Man, I hope if they ever make Quake 4, they fix the bugs before they release it, because quake 3 always had and always will have its flaws.

Such as the ghost cheat and the more widely known crash cheat. When I first started playing quake 3 arena it was in 1999, when they released the bug filled demo. It was actually quite fun to play because this one cheat let you take over the body of someone else and kill while being a ghost and flying throught the air sawing your opponents with the saw. People always ended up kicking the person they thought was ghosting but they always got it wrong, and kicked the innocent person that someone happened to choose as a body. HEHEHE, theres probably a glitch that still allows you to do ghost on the demo version or the full version still today. Fuck those were the days, and i was mad good player at quake 3, it just was funny to see people getting pissed that someone is cheating.

On another note does anyone know where I can download and invisible skin, so I can pissed people off!!
