Hello, I've just purchased Project Zomboid and the game will not launch. A window opens but it remains a black screen. I'm running LMDE 64-bit and I am installing the 64-bit version of the game. Other Java games work fine, such as Minecraft. I took a look in the project-zomboid directory but I was unsure which file was actually the launcher and every one I tried in the terminal just crashed, so I am unable to reproduce the problem via the terminal and provide an output.

any help here would be appreciated.

Edit:

I should mention that it asks for my desura key, and when I enter it the window that asked for the key closes but the ProjectZomboid window remains black. A Java process remains running which I have to kill manually.

Further Edit:

Okay, I've launched ProjectZomboid.sh and this is what was given in the terminal:

Might be best to post this on the games forum on their main site. Chances are people have seen the bug after all it is an alpha.

Yeah, a known issue - are you running Sun Java? Perhaps try OpenJDK?

More details here.

Thanks for the responses. I did a little digging in the PZ forums and I believe it is a driver issue. Java (Sun) is up to date as far as I know; I'm using 1.6.0_26-b03. My Nvidia driver is a couple of months behind though. I'm using 280.13, which was put in the Debian testing repos in August. In the PZ forums they put a very heavy stress on using the latest Java and driver versions. The latest driver on the Nvidia site is 285.05.09.

I've decided to wait until the driver gets updated again in the repos rather than do a manual install to save myself the headache when the kernel gets updated. I'll give it another go then. It's not worth it to me for one game, particularly when that one game is still in alpha. I can be patient. :)

Yep, I recently bought PZ as well. I copied my terminal contents into Google, and this thread is what came up. lol. I can also run the demo, and I have windows on a separate partition and can run it on there, but Linux is a no-go.
