Essential Studios' flagship mod codename "FIREWIND" is preparing to begin development for the Source engine with a very large scope for our final project. We will, however, be spending countless weeks and months working on our initial 'demo world' for those interested in the project to test, play, and enjoy to their heart's content. We will from there continuously ADD to that expanding the gameplay to more worlds, with more interactivity and a more deep experience for the player. We are very realistic about the amount of work this project will take, and will have no tolerance for people who cannot dedicate themselves to this project. We are looking for the highest quality possible.

About the Mod:

"FIREWIND" is an epic FPSRPG which will immerse the player in an open universe with limitless options as to the direction that your interstellar journey will take. After a significant 'tutorial planet' the player will be given the option to train in and take on one or more professions including Thief, Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, Merchant, and Marine.

Primary features include:

-Buying (or stealing!) ships that can be inhabited and flown in true first person perspective
-Multiple character professions
-Interstellar flight between living breathing planets with varying societies
-Heavily interactive environments including the ability to use surroundings as weaponry
-A penal system
-Commerce & banking system
-and much more!

As you can see, there is a ton of work to be done, and we don't have any disillusion as to the difficulty of the project. Not all of these features will make it to the first few builds, but they will make it through our excellent team that we hope to establish. The designers of this mod have developed theoretical systems through which these mechanics can be accomplished, and we welcome the input of our team on all aspects of "FIREWIND".

On to the requirements for application:

Mappers:
- At least 1 completed map to show us as a proof of your abilities.
- Familiarity with triggers, entities, and terrain.
- Importing 3D models as scenery.
- Good teamwork skills.
(Note: Worlds will be split in to many smaller segments, and mappers will be assigned certain segments to complete. Some urban, some nature, some something entirely different.)

Modellers:
-Experience with weapons and/or human design in any Source compatable 3D package. We aren't picky.
-Unwrapping and texturing experience
-As many examples of your previous game-used models as possible. Please be diverse.
-Ability to get as much work done in week long periods as possible.

Coders:
-Very good C++ skills or very good Source engine code modding skills are a MUST.
-The ability to take what might seem impossible, and make it happen.
-A good attitude, and dedication to the project.
-Good teamwork skills.

Texture Artists:
-Previous experience creating textures and texture packages for in-game use, Source experience preferred.
-Knowlege of bumpmap and alpha map creation.
-Effects design is a plus.
-Good teamwork skills.
-Please show us screens of your textures in use.

This should about cover it. Any and all questions and applications should be either posted to this thread, or even better, send to our project leader at CaptainCRUNNK@gmail.com.

Thank you for your time. Together, we can make an experience that will not be forgotten.

Does Essential Studios and it's founding member/s have anything to show for themselves? Talk of theoretical systems is all well and good, but theory is the easy bit.

Thanks for the question.

We are in fact a studio and partnership in its infancy. The two founding members, myself & my partner Tim, have been life long friends and have collaborated on several non digital gaming projects such as board & card games, and years ago ventured to create a small flight sim using the 3D RAD engine as a project for a class in computer science. That project has long since been lost, however, we both have dabbled around in Source and begun several projects on our own before realizing the scale of our visions were far too much for the two of us alone to accomplish...But we know the technology is there.

While we wish we could provide you with something concrete and complete to show, it is simply not available for us to do so and for that we expect to be criticised, mocked and doubted.

We are students of gaming and the procedures involved in creating interactive entertainment, by no means professionals as your tag leads me to believe you are, however, we don't claim to be either. What we do claim to be are dedicated and understanding of the realities of certain aspects of what it takes to see a project to the end, which is why we've turned to this community for help. I myself have formerly considered myself an artist, and have knowlege of animation, modelling, texturing, etc. and experience in doing all of those things. My partner is a coder in his free time when he isn't at his day job. We both have mapped, nothing for anything in particular, mainly for learning purposes of the engine.

The bottom line is, while we expect skeptics, and doubters, we don't for a second doubt our leadership skills and abilities to communicate with a team and assist in every way possible in completing the project. Our skills lie more strongly in design, rather than construction, and we want to bring a team of constructors to the project to complete what we never could alone.
