POLL - Help with a James Bond MOD | Locked | |

Hey, Gang. I'm sure all of you James Bond Fans were P'd at EA's attempt at the James Bond game for the PC. I think, for all u guys who have made awesome MODS, its time I give back. I want to make a James Bond MOD. I have basic (and I do mean BASIC) experience with Max, Maya, Motionbuilder, modeling, little texture and mapping, PS Pro, Unreal ED, and almost no coding experience (little PERL and C++). Now, I'm not asking for help, there are tons of resurces out there to teach me how to do some of this stuff. Some are easy. The coding, will take more time. However, I did want to ask you guys your opinion before I start. Which engine? Unreal? Unreal II? DEus Ex? I'm thinking Unreal 2 would be fine, I am very good with the editor and I think the actors would be easier to script (Bond will be fighting bad guys...not SKaajrs (sp?) LOL But Deus-Ex is almost Bond-like, so I dunno. Similar to above, which engine would provide better scripting for AI? I want stealth in some missions, and I noticed Thievery uses the UT. WOuld that one be better? Do you think people would like this - the only MODS I found for BOND were Doom and Quake 3 many years a go. A search on google pretty much was empty besides the quake one. So do you guys feel there is a demand for this? Also - anybody want to volunteer? Please keep in mind - I'm a 30 year old dude who works a lot of hours, trains for triathlons, and tries to run my own company doing computer security and forensics on the side, so bear with me. However, I AM serious and will not waste your time. I wouldn't ask for help until I'm way into the project. So if you guys would give me you opinion on the above (engine, demand, volunteers later when needed) that would be great. Thanks!! Tellurye -- Tellurye |

Quake1 is easy, even you can do it. If some effort is put into it. The Q1 James Bond TC's weren't very good imo, but the maps in Tommorow Never Dies were sparkling. If Quake1 "doesn't have the features", think again. Look at some new engines. - Edited By cheapalert On Fri 23rd, May 2003 @ 2:49:45pm -- < insert subject games here >

MGM hasn't stopped GoldenEye HL and 007Quake2 and they've been around for a long time. - Edited By CheapAlert On Wed 28th, May 2003 @ 8:46:26am -- < insert subject games here >

MGM are fairly relaxed about modding, like CapCom. I'd say either Quake 1 (very, very adaptable) but if not go for a new generation engine (Unreal 2) or failing that draw up some concepts and wait for HL2 to hit the shelves. |

Another idea is to visit, possibly join up with those 007-based mods and see if you can get some of your ideas into it or help them out enough so you can learn how to mod the things you want in your own work. One nice thing about being on a team, you get to see the internal betas and contribute to the development of the project a bit more. |

A little-known fact: I created the red crosshair (and a few others) for 007Q2. I didn't expect they'd use it, but it works well enough as a place-holder. I suggest working with a team a bit before starting a mod right off; you'll have some experience and know some of the things not to do when you finally get to making your own mod. EDIT: Plus you can meet people of similar interest while working with them and putting a team together will be easier when you know the people a lot better. - Edited By sk8rgrl On Tue 10th, Jun 2003 @ 4:12:07am |

The GoldenEye HL mod, the creator gave up on it. You may be able to pick up on it. Ourumov |
