Please can you add awards for sound in spanner awards? It will give a chance for people in the modding scene who do sound work something extra to look forward to and bring sound design on mods into the light a bit more.

I agree, sound is the most overlooked thing in mods.

But unfortunately, many mods snag from findsounds.com or other games :(

Well when i mean sound awards i mean the heavy duty mods that have got amazing sound effects which are not ripped, and for the people in the music for mods is well. I just think that it should be added because sound is like a major factor in mods now and the cummunity has been taking a liking to it. I admit there are people out that use sounds from there and other games and which i dont approve on.

But for a few people who do that does that affect the rest of the people who dont? Most of the major mods dont go for rippers, And if the sounds have been downloaded or ripped from a game then it can be easly traced back to its source.

We have the MTV music awards but we cant have it here
We have awards for the filming industry involving sound design but again not here.

How can we sound designers look back and say we worked on such such mod and got an award for best sound, while everyone else celebrates their design awards sound and music designers havnt got nothing.

and opti is leet soundman!

I did have it there, I'm sure.. but it had to be cut down quite a bit. Adding it now might not be the best thing to do? I don't know. I'll talk to scotty about it.

I agree it is a good idea, it is a very often overlooked factor - but in some mods the sound design is actually unique and those mods should be rewarded!

Yes, Sound is a very much overlooked factor of gaming. Sound engineers are like coders - they are specialists in short supply.

If i were one i'd be looking for a paid job in a large game company, i think they at least deserve to have a rewardable use in Mods.

Well, DoD did rip some sounds from movies and System Shock 2 (the pain sounds) and Counter-Strike ripped several sounds from Rainbow Six (the MP5 sound is really obvious)... so they could be automatically disqualified :|

well, a lot of sounds would be hard to find. It's not like everyone owns an arsenal of weapons to record. PLus, one gun sounds like the next. Though I do believe every contributor to a mod should be recognized, let's not get to gluttonous.

It should probably go to an original TC that is not like anything out there. There should be a Best Original Mod, but we can't get what we want, can we :P

There are however, ALOT of mods out there that have sound artist that go out and record their own sounds. These people should also get recognition.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Yeah, NS does indeed have pretty awesome mapping. I'll have to consider giving them a vote as well.

NS probably used some generic stock sounds that millions of other games might share. It's sounds are highly original

I'm a sound artist myself, i've made my own pain sounds and even gunfire (chis and hammy's heard them at least :paranoid:)
